I have been a user of TTN since V2 and have always been extremely impressed by the TTFF, Speed of route calculation and Recalc,
and just about everything else. I am a freelance audio engineer in the TV industry and as such need to navigate, usually on my own, to a variety of places (up till now only in the UK) and it's always been brilliant.
For the last three weeks I have been in France working on the coverage of the Tour de France and, before I came over I invested (heavily!) in the European Maps and Two SD cards to contain them. The car that we are using is a Renault Espace and has a factory fitted GPS navigator and I was really looking forward to running TTN alongside to see how they compared. Unfortunately, since getting here I have been having real problems with the whole setup. TTN takes AGES to load, and when it does it also takes AGES to fix position. Then, when you input a route, it takes AGES to calculate, and even worse Re-calculate. I have tried reloading the software from scratch, but am reluctant to Cold Start the IPAQ as I will certainly have forgotten to bring the Registration code for a vital bit of software somewhere else on the Machine. I have tried running the Pretech with and without the external aerial with no apparent improvement, and am now at a loss how to proceed. Any Ideas? _________________ Bilko

The Espace is notoriously known for tinted windshields. I am surprised you see no improvements with an external antenna, though.
On your iPAQ, make sure you free up as much RAM as possible. Maybe you can remove some other programs that you don't really need, or move them to storage card.
The make of the SD card has a big influence on the performance. If you have a SanDisk card then that's tough luck... At least you can try to defragment the card to speed it up a bit. _________________ Lutz
