ok bit of a newbie to GPS satnav

here is my issue
it seems tomtom software wont try to connect or cant connect to the bluetooth GPS receiver

the simple compass like software that comes with the gps works fine on the PPC

i have paired the gps to the PPC obviously also i can get the PPC to connect to the GPS on the phantom serial port.

now in the settings of the tomtom i have selected 'NMEA **** Bluetooth' for the GPS reciever & com port 5 (which is the only bluetooth port available)
but yet tomtom doesnt seem ot be able or try to connect or is there something simple im missing?

had a resonable quick look round the forum but looked lots via google!

anyone else had this issue or knows what im missing to get it working?

Have a look at the BlueTooth serial port settings of your Pocket PC. There must be two serial ports, one incoming, and one outgoing. You need to use the outgoing one.

If your simple GPS app works - can't you just use the same COM port in TomTom?

By the way, you need a task manager to make sure that only one program is accessing the COM port. Otherwise you may run into a situation when your simple app is running in the background and TomTom is unable to connect. To test this do a soft reset before starting TomTom

you are correct there are 2 ports but i cant seem to change either tomtom (from the drop down list in the settings were the port is

the bluetooth port inbound is 5 outbound is 8 that was from the bluetooth settings screen when i clicked on serial port.
which makes sense as tomtom is connecting to 5 but i dont have the option to connect to 8?
am i still missing something?
is there a reg hack i can do to change the ports over? or force it to look for port 8?

also as a matter of course i uninstalled the simple gps compass to eliminate that!

as far as im aware there is no other app's grabbing the bluetooth ports as ive now (well last night) done a hard reset on my pda so the only thing installed is the tomtom software & the default stuff that comes with the PPC. (hard reset might sound extreme but ive only just got it last week so my data hasnt been moved across yet so not bothered)

thanks for you quick answer btw
hope i can resolve the issue

i never said the link didnt solve my problem just not in the way it is meant to

but yes it did help

no i wasnt saying the link didnt help

i was pointing out you might have to try a variation of what was written there

as when i removed the ~gps driver it wasnt there afterwards till i installed the 2.06 drivers.

Thanks Again

Maybe you have previously tried to remove it already. The bad thing is that - apart from a soft reset prompt - there is no feedback that you actually did the first uninstall.

Fortunately TomTom Navigator 5 is not as agressive any more and accepts that there may be other programs that want to connect to the GPS too.
