Hello

Can anyone advise me on the PDA software which ofers the most complete coverage of Ireland. Destinator 3 appears the best but I am new to this so I am quite sure some of you know better! Some appear so sketchy as to be totally useless and I do not want to buy a lemon.

Thanks

Bert

Welcome

Coverage of Ireland is sketchy at the moment, but improving all the time. Major roads are mapped, but only about 15 towns/cities (including Dublin and Belfast) are fully mapped.

The map provider Navteq seem to have better coverage than TeleAtlas at the moment but things are changing fast. Definately check that you are getting the most up-to-date maps and get a demo so you can see how good/bad the maps are for a few areas you are familiar with.

Have a look at this thread for some more info.

Thanks for that - it really looks like I am stuffed at present. If there are new maps soon to be available then I will wait until then. I have a copy of Medion navigator 4.3 but it is woefully limited outside central Belfast and Dublin. I had hoped that I would be able to use the GPS to navigate to various towns across Ireland but it is not looking good at present - the big towns are easy to find - it is the small ones like Aughafadden ( and yes that is a place) that give the trouble.

Cheers anyway

Yours impatiently

The Medion and Destinator map sets are v similar for Ireland (as they use the same source), but Destinator provides a better Front End. So until the next map set update for both, you probably have the best solution.

Yep, I think the NI coverage is 100% now.

Navteq have recently finished mapping the Republic of Ireland and the AA Navigator appears to be the first system to use these maps.

Not sure now long it will be before Garmin et al get around to releasing a map update - maybe the end of the year.
