Ulf,

The logfile might be saved differently on an iCN. It's also possible that just changing the extension from .log to .gps will do the trick and make the file readable using LogConverter.

Oh, sorry. I didn't realise that the thread was residing in an iCN 510 folder Embarassed .
It's still a bit strange if the V3 implementation on iCN should be different from PPC.

Thanks,
Changed extension and was read fine, appreciate it. What is the best way to view the data? Any ideas on the search in ST?

Cheers

Apparently the software for the two systems was developed by different teams. That would explain why PPC/PiN users get a tickbox for Urban Road use, whereas iCN users get a slide bar. Mind you, we get a "detour" function but I can't see that option in the iCN5xx or 6xx manuals.

If you have Autoroute (I have 2005) then you can convert the file using LogConverter (find a post by Oldie and click on his WWW button) and import it into Autoroute to see where you've been.

No idea on your search problem, I'm afraid. What Country and Region have you selected?

I see Autoroute mentioned a bit, is this able to be downloaded somewhere and is it the best to view the log files?

Autoroute is a mapping application for Europe by Microsoft. MS Streets and Trips is the US equivalent. I don't know if they do one for Oz.

PS, if you update your profile to show your (general, if you prefer) location it would be advantageous, as some questions require location-specific answers. Smile

Updated Profile,
i have ST open and have Australia shown in yellow, i assumed i would be able to search in Australia by using the menu but it is greyed out.

Not sure of the Problem, i will keep trying.

Also in previous posts i read theat you could playback the log file in ST, i cannot see how to do this.

Cheers

I don't know about iCN, but in the PPC version of SmartST V3 the playback functionality isn't working. Nothing happens when you klick on Play.

Sounds just like V2 where it doesn't do anything.
Its very misleading to have a play button when it doesn't play.

Hello, and please excuse my ignorance as i am a newbie to this forum and GPS!!

Using the above tips, I've managed to save a couple of logs as excel files.
One of the data columns is listed as height in feet. Out of curiousity I made a graph of my journey to and from work. While the over trend of the graph is about right for the elevation, the actual data isn't anywhere near what it should be, and even it gives a differnt height of my parking spot.
I always had a good signal of at least 6 satellites.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it that the icn 510 isn't designed for accurate elevation data?

Thanks for the great infomation in the forum already, by the way

I would guess that this is because the elevation accuracy is much lower than the horisontal accuracy. I don't know the exact figure for the best theoretical elevation accuracy in a GPS system. My guess is that it is around 30 m. Maybe someone else in this forum knows this better. I haven't had any close look at a GPS log from my Navman system, but it should be interesting to do that.

What about the horisontal accuracy. Did the long/lat values in your log look all right?

Another stupid question from me....

Does the 510 have to actually be in "routing" mode, or will it still gather the information if just left on the "map" function ? I ask this as I often just have the unit sitting in this mode when I know where I'm going, but it would be handy to keep a log of some of the routes I do on the bike...

See I told you it was a stupid question :D

The logging should work without having a route set. At least, that's how SmartST V3 on PPC behaves.

It's pretty strange that Navman have chosen to put the log recording functionality under Settings. It should be placed in the main menu instead, but maybe they don't want to highlight the function that much (especially since it's not even working completely - Playback button does nothing).

I had to sign up purely to say thanks to you guys for a great forum. reading through this thread, downloading the log conversion program, and playing around in excel you have shown me a side of my icn510 that for the last 9 months of ownership i beleived was a non existant feature!

any ideas from people on programs that you can overlay the log data onto that cover australian maps would be sensational.

a thousand thanks again!!
