Hi Guys,

I know its off the topic but thought one of you helpful guys can point me in the right direction.

I have a Dell Axim X5 running Pocket PC 2002 and Centrino Laptop (wi-fi built in). Is it possible to link the 2 wirelessly?

I've set them up and get a strong link between them, but can't see my X5's files on my Laptop and can't transfer my music files from my Laptop to my X5, can this be done?

When I get my broadband setup will I be able to link my X5 to the net via it also?

I'm a Network Newbie (if you haven't guessed).

Thanks for any help

You can ActiveSync via Wireless and once you have established a connection you will then be able to browse your handheld from the laptop.

However to do so you need to be using TCP/IP and have valid IP addresses on both the handheld and laptop. Do you have a router issuing IP addresses, i.e. an ADSL Modem/Router?

Hi Darren,

No I don't have an ADSL Modem/Router, I'm not on broadband yet, its only just come out in my area and still not sure I'll be able to get it.

All I have is a Simple Mobility Compact Flash Wireless Lan Card (IEEE 802.11b) and a brand new Centrino Laptop with 802.11b & g built in, I was wondering if you can contect the 2 and what (if I could) would I be able to do with them. I've loaded the software onto my Axim and tried to configure it to my Laptop and they do seem to link, they both show a strong signal but then I don't now what to do or even what I can do.

I'm want to get broadband soon and then setup a wireless home network, with my Desktop, Laptop & PDA.

So didn't know if there was an idiots guide to wireless networking a PDA around which could help me.

I've also just got an SPV C500 Smartphone (Orange), is there anyway to link this direct to my Axim to transfer files / photos, I have a Compact Flash Bluetooth card for my Amix, which I used to get onto the net using my old Nokia 8910i, but didn't know if I can do more with this either.

Thanks agin.

If you really, really just have these two devices then you need to set both to Peer mode (not Infrastructure) and give them static IP addresses

Laptop:
IP:192.168.0.1
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
dns 192.168.0.1

Axim:
IP:192.168.0.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
dns 192.168.0.1

Once they can see each other you can use the Pocket File Explorer to open a share on the laptop (which you should have created already)

This type of use is also called Adhoc.

I use it all the time, but sometimes you may have to set your networks to Work.

In addition if you use the Active Sync method, remeber to turn on the ethernet option in Connection Settings.

Try this link which is specifically for the Axim (I used it successfully for my Ipaq)
