Tomtom BT GPS and Brodit mount combo

Hi there,

First post here! I have a predicament that I'd appreciate some help with.

I have an hx4700 with Tomtom navigator v3 bluetooth GPS all that my wife bought me for our anniversary. I'm not looking at a way of mounting all that in the car.

I've more or less completely ruled out most mount manufacturers based on bulk of items, build quality etc, and I've arrived at Brodit as the best choice for the 4700. I'm going to go for a mount either with or without a speaker (not sure whether I need one yet as the 4700 sound output seems loud enough for my needs on it's own).

So anyway, this leads me onto the dilema of how to power the BT GPS receiver when it's battery is low. Yes, I know it's good for about 5 hours or so but that's not much good when you're driving from Gatwick to Leeds and back in a day!

I'd like to go for a hardware installation, but what I want to know is if there is any way to power/charge the GPS receiver from the mount. Initially I was looking at this mount:

before I considered the GPS receiver power requirements, so now I'm looking at maybe one of these:

and was wondering if the extra cable that comes from the mount could be plug-modified to power the GPS receiver - particularly the PS2 plug. Could that just be snipped off and a 3.5mm jack fitted? Handnav says that plug is good for powering a BT GPS receiver with a PS2 plug.

Anyone have any ideas?

Brodit Part: 990621 is the one you need. They sell an optional accessory power lead that connects to the PS/2 socket, on the other end is a male charger plug suitable for the TomTom BT GPS.

I use a similar cradle albeit for a 2210 and do just this. The speaker works well and is worth having.

Where did you buy the adapter cable from. I can see the mount on Handnav but cannot find the cable, even usung the part number on the brodit website

Just give Handnav a call or drop them an email, I got mine direct from Brodit for review.
