Help,
I'm having problems updating from Version 4.100(1874) to the latest version 4.4 with POI capabilities. Please help. I have tried using the standard exe install but no joy. I've tried using the Zip version with no luck. has anyone got any advice on how I can update (also without losing my current favourites).
I have a card reader and broadband if the files are out there somewhere.

On the favourite issue is there a way you can back them up?

Hoping you can help.

What happens when you use the standard EXE install?

No need to worry about the favourites, they won't be touched. It's only a program update, not a map update.

Favourites are stored in a database file on the Palm's internal memory

There is a separate file for each Map that you have installed

The file is named as the Map directory with a file extension of .cfg

e.g. For the 'Great_Britain Navigator Map'

the associated file is : Great_Britain Navigator Map.cfg

The file should automatically be backed up by Palm Hotsync when you sync your Palm, but you can also manually copy it

I keep a copy of it along with a file utility such as Filez or FileProg on my SD card, just in case I have a disaster and need to hard reset away from the PC

Note: there is also a .mds file which stores the activation details for the Map which would also be required if you are not running from the original TomTom SD card - This is linked to the Palm serial number so It can only be used with the Palm that you activated the Maps on so PLEASE don't think of trying to copy Maps in this way IT IS ILLEGAL

"What happens when you use the standard EXE install?"
The programme runs through as you would expect and I can select the relevant profile for my T3. When I hotsync it appears the a new programme is up-loading but when I run the Navigator programme on the T3 the version is still the old one.

Just on one point that Falkien mentioned, (thanks by the way for the info for backing up my fav's) I am using a different card from the original one supplied; I'm using a 256 Mb.

Falkien - your explanation regarding the map reference detail was very helpful (TY), this explained why, when I tried to copy my original files (using the card reader) back to the old card, the map was not recognised. I wasn't trying to copy maps I just wanted a back-up copy to experiment with so I didn't mess up my working copy :-)

I look forward to any further assistance you can offer.

Ruffman,

When I upgraded to 4.4 everything worked fine as TomTom described on their website. The only diference that I see about mine from yours is that I used my original SD card to upgrade. I gather that you are using a copy.

Since you have an additional SD card, you might try to do a clean install of TT on this card. So go through the TT installation process as described in the TT manual. Use HotSync to install the original TT program. Make sure it works, then perform the upgrade. I found that when installing maps to the card, it is best to install them directly onto the card rather than through the HotSync process.

By the way, I'm in the US. Don't know if that makes any difference about the cards. Here in the US, the package we get is 8 CD's, the GPS device, and some cables. We must install the program and maps on a clean SD card (that's not included).

It's also possible that you have two copies of the navigator program on your system..

one on the palm and another on the card

The original TomTom SD card has a copy of navigator.
It's called 'Start.prc') on the card and is stored under /Palm, It is this program that the palm runs when the SD card is installed
Because it is in the palm directory and not in Palm/Launcher it doesn't appear in the Program Launcher when you select the SD card from the category chooser

I recommend manually installing the upgrade as I've previously described (I think there is a sticky subject in the palm forum)
