I have just installed POI Sync and initially came across the proxy settings problem. I have now reset IE to disable proxy, but when I try to use the POI sync manager to connect to the GPS POI page I get the following error message:
cannot retrieve on line file info (http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/poisync/pocketgps.xml) because of the following errors

Can't resolve hostname to IP address

Please check IE proxy settings.........

Can any one help with this please?

If you can't resolve hostname to IP address then it maybe that you require proxy settings. When you remove the proxy settings can you goto any website in IE ? If not, then you probably have some sort of proxy client installed which is required with the proxy settings in IE to be used. If that is the case then you won't be able to get POI-Sync to work. That also may be the case for some business based setups where you are behind a firewall and proxy server.

Thanks Dave

Yes I can access other sites with no problems with the IE proxy turned off. I am at home and have a Norton firewall installed, but it usually alerts me to permit/reject connections it does not recognise. Maybe I'll contact the author to see if there is any hope!

I presume you've tried rebooting everything (including any routers or similar you're using) - that may just clear the problem.

Yes - everything gets turned off at the end of the day (or night) including the router. Seems strange I can go to any site on the web directly, but not via download manager in POI sync!

I just noticed mention of a Norton firewall - my apologies for not commenting on this earlier.

Norton firewall products have caused problems for others - try disabling the firewall temporarily. If POI Sync works then, you need to try to persuade your Norton firewall to play happily with POIEdit.
