Is there anyone out there that could please explain / advise me on these issues. I have been searching everywhere but have not got the first clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

MGRS - is this a function of the software or hardware

Hardware Compatability - Does any software work with any hardware PDA/GPS/SOFTWARE.

Waypoints - Do PDA GPS solutions have the functionallity to MARK waypoints along a route?

I currently work in Iraq and own an XDA IIs. I require a GPS solution to work with my XDA IIs on the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS ) Ideally, I would like the best software with the best hardware. I have been looking at Mapping solutions like Fugawi, but would also like something that I could use at home (UK) and abroad with navigation software.

It's a bit of both. However, not many receivers support this datum in hardware, so you will have to look for programs that can convert the WGS84 coordinates into MGRS

pretty much so. There are some attempts to lock software to certain receivers, and sometimes programs just don't work on older OS.

yes, but mostly this is true for topographical software. Street navigation software does not know the concept of waypoints - there you have a travel itinerary, and Points of Interest.
