I *think* (and don't quote me on this) that the current version 3.x will not, but the new Navigator 2004 does. The latter is currently only available outside UK at the moment. However, at some point soon (ie. next year) it should be available and then landscape mode should be too.

There's no support for landscape (or VGA) in TomTom Navigator 3 - it's QVGA portrait only. If you switch to landscape, Navigator 3 throws up an error and shuts down.

The Navigator 2004 software, currently used in the HP Navigation Pack as well as the the new USA product, is certainly landscape capable - though I don't know whether it has VGA support. I expect this software, which is based on TomTom's "common platform" code as used in all their other products, to be the basis of the next European version of Navigator for the Pocket PC.

That said, I don't think landscape makes that much difference to portrait - all it means in most navigation software is that instead of the various indicators being at the bottom of the screen, they're down one side instead.

Well, that's not entirely true, i'm using an hp hx4705 with tomtom navigator 3 in landscape mode without any problems (at least not with the map, GPS in generall is another question...)

If I switch to landscape mode in Navigator, I get a dialog "TomTom Navigator 3 does not support landscape mode. This application will shut down." The same happens if I start Navigator in landscape mode.

I suspect you're running an earlier version than 3.07 or 3.07T. My test was with version 3.07T (as I have a Traffic subscription). The 3.07 versions of Navigator and GPS are the only ones that have official support for Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.

I've had my 4700 for about six weeks now.

My TomTom 2004 for PocketPC arrived on Monday.

With TomTom Navigator running a single tap on the screen brings up the menu screen.

Tapping Preferences icon and scrolling through the choices I find a ROTATE SCREEN icon. Tapping that icon rotates the screen counterclockwise 90 degrees (touchpad now on left). Tapping it again rotates yet another 90 degrees (touchpad now on top). Tapping rotate screen icon a third time rotates yet again (touchpad on right)... continue this exercise until you get dizzy or have the screen displaying the way you like...

Hope this helps,

Terry

There is a difference between TomTom Navigator 3 (still the current retail product in Europe) and the USA / Canada TomTom Navigator 2004.

TomTom Navigator 3 has no support for landscape mode - the latest 3.07 / 3.07T version shuts down if it detects a WM2003SE device like an iPAQ hx4700 in landscape mode.

TomTom Navigator 2004 clearly has some landscape support as you describe, Terry. What happens if you start TomTom Navigator with your iPAQ set to landscape mode? Can you tell if Navigator 2004 supports VGA mode on the hx4700, or does it appear to be a QVGA only application?
