Well I tried to install the voice files from the disc with no success. It says none were loaded.

Also I have no TT on the today screen and a different icon in the start menu......... does that matter?

Yes, voices are separate - you can install the ones from the CD

I have tried installing the voices from the disc 5 times with no success...... for some reason when I lauch the app it says NO VOICES are installed....... but I see them in my remove programs option on the device. Perhaps it doesn't recognize the installation that I have because it isn't from the cd?

Not all is lost. Have a look at my article wher I describe the required registry settings.

How did the activation go?

Well I did find it a little bit ago and tried it......... couple problems.... I have no Voice folder. I created one and put the 2 voice files into it, but I cannot see it in the registry. I have TT loaded all over my device it seems,

Program Files/Navigator
MyDevice/Tom Tom
My Docs/TomTom Navigator
Windows/ a bunch of files

It is very difficult to figure what goes where......... but I do not have a voice folder anywhere.

Ideas?

Thanks sooooo much for the time on this one!

fyi

The only folder I have in that Tom Tom folder in the picture is a Maps folder....... no Voice.
If I create one I still can't see it.

Again, let's do this slowly

You need to perform two steps
1) install the voice CAB and note down into what directory it installed. For example, I manually installed mine into \Storage Card\Navigator\USAC (for USA Computer Voice)

2) using a registry editor, verify that the following branch exists

\HKCU\Software\TomTom\TomTom Navigator\Voice

If not, create the key.

Then verifiy that within this key there is a string value called LastInstalled that points to the location where you installed your voice file to.

Thanks for your patience! Smile
Here is the thing...... I can't find a voice CAB file. I can only load from the cd itself it seems.
Is that a problem or am I missing something?

I also noticed that it isn't the full new version I don't think. The screenshots from their website and the reviews are different than what is running on my device a little....... I have the new icons. But when in 3D view there is no street names showing....... also when in Navi mode I have the old bottom portion, not the new one

I don't have this.......

I have the one with the old bottom.
I also don't have the new TT logo on the today screen, or in the Programs list..... I have the old logo in the list.

Is it different because I am in the US? Or did the install not go correctly?

thanks much!

Not this one......

I have the old properties type menu. Black writting on white text.

The only thing that seems different are the large icons from the previous version I had.

You are installing TomTom Navigator 3. The screenshots you show are from TomTom Navigator 4 (or 2004, as they call it). I did warn you before that TTN3 will be of not much use to you if you only have the 2.24 maps.

As for the voice files

- find the CAB on the CD, or get one from the web
- copy it to the Pocket PC
- run it
- then verify the registry and adjust it if necessary.
