BMW driver living on the edge and allegedly activating 32 cameras on a stretch of the M6. I didn't think there were that many cameras along the length of the M6?

Probably just get a slapped wrist if recent judges decisions are anything to go by.

I've been up there a couple of times recently and there's a lot of cameras. But I think to get up to 32 you'd be counting the Hadecs (two per site) and the Specs (two per pole) and you'd get to 32 quite easily.

But mile after mile after mile at 50 and/or 60 gets wearying after a while. Back in the good old days, the roadworks extents were much shorter, whereas today they don't seem to hesitate to close it in 20 mile (and more) stretches. Reading to London, Birmingham to Manchester you can forget about 70mph. And there used to be a time when night driving was a breeze.

He was caught between J14 and J15 of the M6. Let's assume going North and we'll start at J13.

That gives us in order:

SPECS
SPECS
'shelf' awaiting a HADECS
SPECS
SPECS
J14
SPECS
'shelf' awaiting a HADECS
SPECS
SPECS
'shelf' awaiting a HADECS
SPECS
SPECS
'shelf' awaiting a HADECS
SPECS
J15
(then a SPECS just north of J15)

Even if those shelves have all had their cameras fitted I'm struggling to see how that could have activated 32 cameras...

Unless he was doing laps - going north on M6 then going south on M6 then going up again...

You also don't 'activate' specs - you get the speed measured between cameras... Unless they are classing the speed from 1-2, speed from 1-3, speed from 1-4, speed from 2-3, 2-4, 3-4 as 'activating'...

I guess another option was that they activated a load of speed cameras on normal roads but was apprehended on the M6. The headline implies the 32 cameras were on the M6. However, the included tweet from the police just says they were stopped on the M6 after activating 32 cameras.

Anyway, idiot driver. Potential hyperbole in the local rag... Nowt new LMAO

Ten specs you list. With two cameras on each pole, that’s 20. You also list four Hadecs and they also seem to have two cameras, so that another 8 (I saw Hadecs on several shelves on M6 within the miles and miles of cones and specs. As CamerAlert not only falls over when I try to do a voice comment, but also crashes my hands free setup, so I can’t do reporting these days. Otherwise I would have reported Hadecs in place when I saw them because there are several.

Anyway, for the purposes of shock horror reporting, we’d all count cameras up and down, without needing to mention it.

Yes I have indeed. But I have a life when I get home, rather than spend ages scanning through hours of recording.

Yes it is often time consuming.

When I spotted those new Hadecs I made a mental note of the time and using Dashcam Viewer I was able to 'zoom in' quite quickly to the area.

I press the 'emergency' button and then those clips are flagged and easy to locate after.
