This morning I received mapshare corrections.

And I CAN still buy their wonderful cameras. If, as they warn, my map becomes inaccurate, what happens to them selling me cameras which won't warn because they are not on new roads which are not on my inaccurate map?

At the very least, we will get another 5 map updates. They were selling a 1+5 (1.5 years) update right up to the deadline. If you ignore adding on subscriptions and make the '1' the 980 update, there are still 5 more to come.

Had the TT email last week that notified the withdrawal of support for the original One XL [no internal memory]. I had retired it long ago as the battery collapsed and repair seemed uneconomical. Have a new Kia with in-dash TT, but the frequency of voice instructions is poor compared to the 550.

PS as regards subscription end dates on x50s, on the first screen go into Live Services, then My services.

PPS I have a couple of plastic crates of dash and windscreen mounts, and cabling and connectors, that cost a lot of money, and are now becoming worthless.

Nice one TomTom... it's just an excuse too a cull a pile of older models.
Theyíre obviously going by the original specs and limitations of these devices even though most can be easily upgraded to use SD card larger than 2GB.
I have several TomTom GO X10 devices and Iíve been using boot loader v5.5242 on all of them for years. This allows them to accept up to 32GB SD cards without a problem.
I also have an ancient original TomTom ONE thatís using boot loader v5.5136 which will allow it to use SD card up to 32GB.
As my 910 has a 20GB HDD itís still supported but for how long I wonder?
I guess the next cull will be based on Navcore version which will kill off the remaining older models and I guess this will also include the Carminat etc.
Time to seriously consider a worthy replacement for my 910... but all the newer TomTom models are so limited in their features and accessibility and Iím not familiar with Garmin devices.
Any suggestions would be gladly welcomed :-)

A quote from TomTom's latest e-mail...
"As we work tirelessly to launch new technologies and deliver a great customer experience, it has become clear that some of our first generation navigation devices do not have sufficient memory to store the newest maps and features available. For example the map of Europe is now more than 7GB and the average map size increase per quarter is 400MB."
Strange as my latest map of Europe is 2.61GB and back in early 2013 it was only 2.18GB... even though my mental arithmetic is not brilliant it doesn't take a mathematician to see the TomTom are stretching the truth somewhat!
I guess this shows how dumb and gullible they consider they're customers to be... time to look elsewhere but my next device won't be a TomTom... not unless I can bag a 940 from somewhere :-D

Is this a telltale sign that TT sales are floundering.

Won't be long before they start pop up adverts during navigation Laughing

Maybe they should send out constructive emails asking what users would like to see on future units.

Chapter two:-
Now TomTom are squirming and changing/adding to their list of dead devices and making new excuses:-

A few more old device models have been added to the list. For the full list, please see https://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22600

Changes to maps and services updates for older devices
The memory size is indeed not the whole story but this has to do with generally out-dated technology and focusing on the current ones. With the increase in technology and range of products we have created, the company has made an executive decision to stop supporting products that will no longer run on our newest software. This has been a long and arduous undertaking that involved the weighing of many pros and cons. In the end, the decision was made to stop supporting some of our much older devices in order to allow our company to grow. We will respect the life of your device regarding any existing subscriptions.

In regards to purchasing maps and services, the benefit of many of our new products is that they come with lifetime map updates for Europe, and some for the world. Many also come with lifetime traffic and speed camera updates. In this way, you would not have to continually purchase those services year after year.

We do sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused, but we do greatly value your business and have therefore created a special offer on several of our new devices, specifically for customers affected by this End of Life decision. Customer Service can provide more information about this offe.

Cheers, Mikko

Bah bumhug... none of the newer TomTom Sat Navs are a patch on the older ones!
I'd rather go down the Garmin route rather than buy a new de-featured TomTom with an inaccessible file system.

...and still the 910 is still supported... but for how long Confused
I see even the GO 700 is still supported with it's tiny 2.5GB HDD, so the killing off of older devices must be based on their original "limited" 2GB SD storage capabilities... unless you've unofficially changed the boot loader then that argument goes out of the window Very Happy

They are NOW admitting it's not just internal memory restrictions (which was utter BS when most devices have an SD card slot anyway (irrespective of needing to update the bootloader to read SDHC cards on the pre-x20's) and they are now mumbling about software/navcore stuff too!

The owners here are just a small cog in the system but the posts are all pointing to the same problem.

The older units are better, more configurable and are being hung on to.

When will TT realise this instead of now having to do a Microsoft.

Could you point me at this info as I haven't seen any changes to their original official announcement. I wonder if the older TomTom based Carminat is to be added to the hit list?

PS it's easy to check if your device is still covered by connecting it to TTHome
