Sorry, I no longer understand what you are trying to achieve.
Did you manage to find the database files and back them up? Are you now talking about importing the voice files into Navigon? or into the CA Android app.
If it into the CA app, you may well be the pioneer with this so let us know how you get on.

sorry I should have said at the end of the Cameralert manual. What the voices are for I dont know.
I still would like to know where Cameralert is on my SD card if Android has moved it there.

I had a look around and can't see any non-system apk files on my phone. On one search it mentioned that you can only see them with a rooted device - it's the same with the 'downloaded by the app' files.

One way you may be able to check is by putting the SD card into a card reader and seeing if the PC will see it as it's own drive and not via the phone's software.

I know what you mean about knowing about computers. The best way I can describe it is that on the phone you are now a user of a very limited account and not a system admin.

Hi Andysue.
I have just connected my Android phone to a Win7 PC. I thought that my CamerAlert was loaded on to my MicroSd card although that is not how it gets reported - see below!

In Win Explorer I searched for "pocketgpsworld" (with "Show hidden files" selected) and it returned three results -

InternalStorage/UcDowloads/cache/SubResMetaDAta/pocketgpsworld.dat

InternalStorage/UcDownloads/cache/SubRes/pocketgpsworld/

and

InternalStorage/Android/data/com.pocketgpsworld.cameralert/files/

This last location is where MaFt and the Android manual say you need to concetrate on. Mine just has crash reports in there. According to the manual this is where you should add the CamerAlert.apk and Sounds.zip files if you want Asteroid.

I would say that all of this is new to me. You certainly do not need to do any of this to get CamerAlert working on your phone. It is usual to just download the app, start it, and go for a drive. It works perfectly as is.

Good luck, please let us know how you get on.

EDIT - +1 to what GerryC's says above.
Some editing also.

I've been playing with my Android phone recently and depending where you look there's a lot of confusing naming going on for the storage.

The phone itself has internal memory AND an inaccessible SD card.

Then there is another SD card that the user can add.

Android refers to them as the "SD card" and the "Ext card" but lots of other apps call the external card "the SD card".

So far as I can tell, no Android apps can be installed to the external SD card, only to the phone memory or to the internal SD card.

I have found that out as well that you can not install to the self installed SD card (even though I have told it to), but once installed you can move downloaded apps to this card from within settings.
I have done this with cameralert as I only have 512mb of internal memory.
But still cant see it on the SD card?
Perhaps rooting the phone would make a difference.

OK did a search just on my removable SD card.
Came up with this com.pocketgpsworld.cameralert-1.asec
which was in the .android_secure folder.
So If I back this up does this back up my camera update so I can use it again if I return my phone to factory setting?
cant find anything else on the phone to do with pocketgpsworld

Goodness sakes. Once you have downloaded the app and paid your subs to PGPSW, you do not need to back up anything to do with CA. If your phone goes back to the factory/you buy a new phone/whatever, all you have to do is re download the app, link it to your PGPSW account and away you go. You can download the latest database any time. It changes almost daily for CA anyway, so any database older than a couple of days is already 'out of date' so it is pointless backing it up.

Unpack the sound files in the attached ZIP to the
/Android/data/com.pocketgpsworld.cameralert/files/ folder on the external storage (i.e. the SD card). If that folder doesn’t exist yet you will need to
create it.
This doesnt exist, if I create it will it read these sound files in the App?
Just where in the CamerAlert manual have you seen this. Are you sure it isn't in the Navigon manual.

CA does not run 'with' Navigon. It does not integrate with it. It runs 'behind' it and pops up its alerts.

EDIT: Ah, I've just found it. It's to do with the Parrot Asteroid head unit. Do you have one of these? Otherwise it's not relevant. The required sounds for CA are within the CA app.
