Interestingly, the TomTom Discussions thread about lack of connection in USA is now reporting good connections - IN PLACES NOT AFFECTED BY THE HURRICANE - users are offering the opinion that with everybody out of contact in the hurricane affected areas, the lesser useage is enabling connections elsewhere.

I can remember way back when you wanted an international phone call you went through an operator, who rang back when there was a line free......... sometimes you waited all afternoon.

Maybe we will have to book slots with Tom Tom

Ah.... the retreat of technology.........

EDIT for typo.

My Live service came back on the evening of 2.11.2012, so this will be my third day of Live Traffic.

Yesterday on a drive from Winchester to Southampton it lost signal for a minute when the traffic bar also disappeared, but it came back very soon without having to do anything.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this time I won't lose it again, as for the previous 2 weeks I could hardly connect.

By the way, the spinning wheel is becoming known as the Kylie Wheel after her Spinning Around song !! Perhaps Tom Tom could arrange for the units to play that song as we watch the wheel spinning. I might suggest it to them

There's also the Dave Benson classic 'No Wheels on my Wagon' - next line: 'but I'm still rolling along.'

Ha Ha Ha . I just posted this new thread on the TT forum

Live Traffic Spinning Wheel - the Kylie.

Dear Tom Tom

My Live Traffic has been back for three days now.

Can I say that when it works it is a fantastic service, and the Tom Tom mapping is far superior to any other.

However we were recently faced with having to watch the live traffic spinning wheel for all our journeys for about a fortnight.

One revered menber in message 127 on the "Live Services Issue on 18-Oct-2012 (UK) New " thread (dmwillz) said the wheel was doing a "kylie". I think this is a fantastic description - it refers of course to the song "Spinning Around" by Kylie Minogue

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blJbs98dWVE

I wonder if it is possible for you to somehow incorporate this music into the TomTom so that the music plays when we get the spinning wheel?

Best Wishes

John

Guivre, you might want to suggest the other song - p**s them off a bit Laughing Out Loud

Edited for typos

Lost services again and my device is now doing a Kylie.

Unfortunately for all the frustrated users at the end of their patience with TomTom, is their a superior traffic alternative?

How good is the Garmin alternative and I ask this as I don't know having never used them.

I had a Garmin with TMC traffic before the TomTom. I'm afraid it is not a patch on HD traffic. It's mostly due to the dependency on the traffic sensors, which are only on major roads.

e.g. I work on the outskirts of Reading. If there is a problem on the M4 (my usual route) the Garmin would view a route straight through Reading town centre as a viable option. This is a disaster and would often take longer than sitting out the M4 issues. The TomTom on the other hand can also see the rush hour issues in Reading town centre and will plump for a route through the countryside. This is what I would do too (prior to owning the TomTom) to avoid an issue on the M4. So the TomTom goes for the best possible route, one that people with local knowledge would choose.

Hi all,

Thank you for providing us with valuable feedback. I currently do not have any updates for you, and I appreciate your continued patience while we investigate.

As soon as we have anything of interest for you guys, we'll of course update you.

All the best,

Ditte"

So they are still struggling with this problem!

I drove from Hertfordshire to Fulham this morning after the rush hour and traffic appeared accurate and held up for the whole journey, I hope it's the same on the way back!

Generally not been an issue for me. Lost the service on the Pembrokeshire coast at the weekend, but I assumed that was a connection issue. (Could someone confirm that traffic is on the phone network).

Was fine soon after, and has been ever since. Derby to Luton and back today. I've never had more than a few minutes of downtime since I bought the unit.

Interesting.

After a fortnight of problems with TT Live Traffic, my service was restored on the 2nd Nov and so far seems to be OK. Today I've had a few drops but not for long each time.

I've just noticed that my subscription for live traffic has been extended by two ot three weeks. It expired mid October 12 ( I cannot remember the exact date) and I renewed for a year to mid October 13 (I remember checking). Now its up to the 5th Nov 2013. Interesting to know if they meant to extend it by about three weeks, or if they reset the server today and its a glitch.

I see that the support page on the TomTom website now has a new message displayed regarding the HD Traffic/Live Services problems...

http://uk.support.tomtom.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16635/locale/en_gb

"On 7th November our network provider implemented a fix for the connectivity issues that have been affecting some of our UK customers over recent weeks. Current indications are that the fix has successfully resolved the issue. We'd like to apologise for the frustration this issue has caused. All customers who have contacted us about this issue will hear from us shortly."

My wife has 'borrowed' my 550 Live over the past few days, but she reports it has been working OK whilst using it in the East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire areas. It's not been used further afield than that.

Is anyone still experiencing HD Traffic problems?

Has anyone heard anything from TomTom regarding compensating them for the loss of service? I'd like to think TomTom would extend everyone's subscriptions pro rata, but I'm not holding my breath in anticipation.
