Hi
I’ve had a big problem with my Tom Tom 710 when updating it today. My computer crashed part way through the process and it seems to have corrupted my Tom Tom. I am, also, unable to restore my TT from the computer backup either.
When switched on the TT just gets as far as the first screen before the password screen and then switches off. Resetting does not help.
TT Home shows the following in “MANAGE MY GO”
“ITEMS ON MY DEVICE”
Maps
Voices
Poi
Safety cameras
Routes
Map Overlays
Postcodes
Colour schemes
Start up images
Shut down images
Quick GPSfix data
Phone Connection settings
Ringtones
“REMOVE ITEMS FROM THE COMPUTER “
Voices
POI
Postcodes
Shut down images
QuickGPSfix data
“INSTALL ITEMS FROM THE COMPUTER “
Voices
POI
“OPERATE MY DEVICE” on the computer DOES work.
UPDATE does not work
I still have my Tom Tom folders folders in "my documents". In the Backup 01 file there it has the same file folders as on the TT file folder list apart from 2 folderss “maps” and “logging” which are not on the Tom Tom itself. TT in My Documents in addition to backup contains folders entitled “From Device” and “Download”
Can anyone advise me on how I can restore my Tom Tom to working order?? PLEASE

If it's an Explorer Backup, and you can see the files in Explorer, try deleting all the Files that are not in Folders (the yellow icons).
Then copy the same Backup Files back to the 710, from the PC. Safely Remove and then try again.
You could as an alternative, after you have deleted the Files, try Update again and it should download the current version.
If that doesn't work we'll try something else. _________________ Richard

Thanks Richard
Good news!!
I followed the instructions on Tom Tom support, saved the contents of the TT to my computer, reformatted the TT and then downloaded the TT contents back from the computer onto the TT. It was a long job as the TT took quite a long time to reformat and the map file took a long time to re-download. In fact the first time the re-download failed at the very end. But in the end it's all up and working although I have lost some POIs and voices in the above processes.
Now I just have to sort out the battery replacement!!!!
I did wonder about replacing the satnav with a newer model as I won £50 of Halfords vouchers on another Yellow caravanning forum. However on reading reviews on the "Which?" mag website even their best buys seem to have quite a few glitches. So as we're rather hard up at present I think I'll stick with my trusty TT710 - we have aged together and are well used to each other's eccentricities!!!
Thanks again for the advice.
