I have an Orange SPV C500 and a TomTom BT GPS reciever. I have installed the Mapopolis software for smatphones with no problem and paired the TT BT Reciver with the phone. Outboung Com Port is 7 on the phone. When I try to start GPS in Mapopolis, the phone tells me that GPS Port (COM7) is not available. I've tried 'auto detect' setting in Mapopolis with no luck.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, Phil,

Yesterday I worked with a customer in the Netherlands with a TomTom Bluetooth GPS and a C500, but we unable to get them working together with Mapopolis.

We even went to the point of examining the NMEA "sentences" that the GPS was putting out, but were unsucessful in getting a full connection. We were getting GSV (satellites in view), but not apparently RMC (position and time) OR VTG (course over ground and ground speed). My customer lost interest in this process before anything was resolved.

Another customer with an Emtac reported success with his C500.

Hi, Sean,

The Emtac is a fine GPS, but you might consider the Holux-GR-230 and the Fortuna Clipon, too. There are several good choices in GPS out there now, and PocketGPSWorld is a good place to read about them.

And here's an update on the customer with the TomTom GPS and a C500. It turned out that he had installed the program to RAM. After he installed it to the card and freed up some RAM, he was able to connect to the GPS.

Pocket GPSWorld is an amaazing source of information, but I am getting a headache and need to order a BT GPS Today specifically for my Smartphone.
I don't want another TomTom BT as I had a few problems with these in the past (Battery/Orange Lights etc), so I bought a TT Go.
But I want to take my phone to the states and use Mapopolis at the weekend.

Holux or Fo

I'm testing a number of Smartphone GPS Solutions and have had no issues with BT GPS Receivers on my E200. I can use Mapopolis with my TomTom BT without problems.

Can you try the following:

1. Delete any existing BT pairing
2. De-activate Com7, exit the config page then access it again and activate Com7, this will prompt for a BT bond with the GPS,
3. Bond as prompted and enter the pair key (TT is 0000)
4. launch Mapopolis, select Com7 and see if you are good to go.
