Presumably, this means that a BOOK containing the locations is also illegal (I remember when road atlases started including camera positions, they didn't publish them for Ireland).

So how about a passenger with a good memory and an air horn? Is that illegal too?

I just installed CameraAlert for Android, and I see red light cameras and speed cameras in Geneva. Does this make my Android device illegal on my trip to Geneva?

Only if you use the app (and get caught using it). If it bothers you, delete the app before entering Switzerland and then re-install after you leave. You could even take a backup of the app using TitaniumBackup, and restore from that, which would retain the database data and can be saved to an SD card.

Does this mean that the Swiss cameras are now in the regular EU download?

No, they only appear in the CamerAlert product because users of that can make a simple choice whether to use, or not, the app when in a country where the use of Speedcam POIs is either forbidden or a grey area.

We are considering offering this data to all, perhaps as an extra selection, or by means of a 'tick here if you want it' type selection. As always, responsibility for the legality lies with the user ultimately.

I am a little confused having read all this thread. Basically its illegal for me to have POI re cameras in Switzerland so the database is not available. Fine. But is this not same for France now and yet French database is available?

If its me that gets dragged out of car and shot by Swiss Rozzers why can't I take risk of having Swiss database as I can with French? I simply delete app off phone as I slow down from warp speed.

One reply from JaguarV12e says he has Swiss database for CamerAlert. How, I thought it was not available?

Can I get access to Swiss data even in crude text format so I can note where camera's are? Switzerland is so small that its probably easy enough to memorise where a few camera's are on a brief journey through country.

This tread is over a year old and things have moved on. You can optionally d/l both the French ans Swiss cameras to add to your Nav program via the normal download process likked to on this page. I'm not 100% certain about the CamerAlert database though, but I expect Darren or MaFt will be along in a while to confirm. But as I understand it, both are included in the CA database and it's up to you whether you chose to run CA in either of the countries.

CamerAlert downloads everything. You choose whether or not to use the app.

Okay but here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/activecams.php it says "Swiss cameras are not currently included in the EUR download." And whilst in CH I saw no cameras what so ever pop up on CamerAlert.

What am I missing?

Well, that page is for the download page. CamerAlert doesn't use that - it uses the in-app download.

Have you checked the submission map? Perhaps it's just a case of we don't have those cameras in our database? Did you submit them while you were there?

Well, that page is for the download page. CamerAlert doesn't use that - it uses the in-app download. So although its got the same database number as the one I download as an app onto my iPhone; what you are saying is if you download it from web the same databses does not have CH cameras but the App version with same number does?

Have you checked the submission map? Perhaps it's just a case of we don't have those cameras in our database? Did you submit them while you were there? Look at submission map - not sure what you mean. Looking at submission map now, on iPhone, in Birmingham and I cannot see any local camera's, so I can conclude that if I traced my journey in CH I would now not see any cameras. Did not see the submission map when the camera flashed in CH. But if camera was on map then it would have alerted me. So not sure what you are suggesting I do to help matters. I did let you know of 3 camera's I spotted, at least one maybe two were in CH.

To be be blunt I am not convinced there are any CH camera's on my CamerAlert iPhone app. I drove top to bottom of CH and back again and I cannot remember seeing or hearing a single alert. Can you confer with the powers that be and confirm that the App version of your identical numbered database to the web version has all CH cameras? If so, how do I check?

Please remember that many (most?) users have dedicated gps units like TomToms and Garmin's etc that use the download page to get the database. The CamerAlert app doesn't use this route. I can't remember off hand where the specific notes for CamerAlert are regarding this though.

The submission page is here (accessible from the menu on the site). When you browse the map in the app it can take ages to refresh if you don't have a gps signal but the do show eventually.
