It says in the tech specs that the device speaks RS232. So technically you can connect it to a COM port on a Pocket PC.

Now for the bad news. The 1940 doesn't have a COM port. (only USB). And - neither does the Acer!

So the only way you can accomplish this is to buy one of the serial GPS receivers that are specifically suited for the 1940 or the Acer (because their cable contains a USB to serial converter) , cut the cable and connect your Garmin instead.

Now wait, why would you do that when you have just bought a working combination?

Most likely you can.

I have not used/tested an Acer N30 so do not know what sort of com port it has.-- not all com ports are the same. If it has a true RS232 com port you should have no problem.

I forgot to add that you do need a null modem adapter between the 2 serial cables.

We have cables for Ipaq 2210.

PQ8SMP is a "serial interface" which you can connect to a serial device like a GPS (connects to the PC serial cable of the GPS, no null modem adapter is necessary).

It also allows you to power the Ipaq with appropriate car adapter if you already have one. If not then add CKUC (car adapter/cable for use with PQ8SMP).
