If the nav software is indeed iGO8 on an SD card, first copy the whole of the SD card to your PC as a backup. (It'll take quite a while as there's a lot of stuff) then delete the existing stuff from the iGO8\Content\Speedcam folder. Copy the unzipped iGO .txt file from this site into the iGO8\Content\Speedcam folder. Restart the software. It will seem to 'hang' on 'INITIALLISING SAFETY WARNINGS' (or something similar) for maybe 20 seconds before continuing to start. If the iGO8 software has the original 'skin', then you will have to wait until you have a GPS fix before the speedcam warning enabling menu becomes available. |

you say copy/ install the .txt file from the unzipped igo speed cams folder, into the speedcam folder on the igo8 SD card.shouldn't I copy ALL the files from the unziped igo speed cam folder into the
speedcam folder on the igo8 SD card.
I have downloaded both consolidated cams and single file cams, which one
is best to use.
also how do I update the skin while I am at it.
thanks.

Use the Single file All cams file.
There are 2 out of the 5 files in the downloaded zip archive that you can use.
1. pocketgps_uk_sc.txt You must copy this one to the speedcam folder
2. pocketgps_uk_pmobile.txt You may use this file if you choose to. Read about pmobile cams on the download page.
Do not copy the the Release, licence and Need_Help files.
Alternative skin .zip go in the iGO8\content\skin folder. Google for "iGo8 skin" there's shedfulls of them |

His last post was Oct last year and I'm sure that he hasn't been back since . Post your device/OS/software/skins etc. and someone will probably help you. |

to M8TJT.
Do you just not like PRIMO or has it got problems I haven't found yet?.
I Don't know anything about satnav ,that is why I asked for your help in
this thread and the others while I was trying to make up my mind which to use.
Iwill not use it if you don't recomend it, I value your imput and knowledge
about these nav systems and if you say it is no good that is good enough for me,I will use iGO 8 instead.but if you just don't like it ,I will give it a try for a bit longer.what do you recon to route66.
cheers.

My suggestion is that you try it a bit longer. No probs that I found, it's just that I prefer iGO8 and the way that I have modded my skin to do exactly what I want it to do. It's probably because it's different and I can't get used to it. Don't know about R66 though. Never used it. |

Hello M8TJT
I've just bought a new DVD/Sat Nav unit for my car, which is running iGO8 maps. As yet i'm waiting to have the unit fitted to my car.
But in the meantime a couple of questions, which i hope you don't mind as i'm new to iGO8.
You keep mentioning 'skins' what are they and what do they do?
The maps for my iGO8 would appear to be well over 2yrs old, how/where can i get these maps updated or do i have to go back to the supplier i've bought the unit of?
So far i've found your advice to be very useful, as i've already followed your advice about setting up for speed camera alerts, and just can't wait to have the unit installed on the car so that i can start using the Sat Nav

keithmillar wrote: | You keep mentioning 'skins' what are they and what do they do? | A skin can change the appearance and functionality of iGO. For insatnce, speed cams, by default, have no spoken warnings, just a 'tutkey gobble' alert. Certain skins allow for the spoken alert. The interface is fully modifiable, provided that you take the time to learn the 'language' they use. Takes quite a long time to get your head round though.
Unlike other sat nav programs, iGO is extremely customisable if you know how, or by applying different skins.
Also a lot of parameters such as speed cam car speed/distances can be set up in a file called SYS.TXT. But if you do start tinkering, make sure that you have a full backup of the system memory and any SD Card BEFORE you start. You will not end up with a brick if you take this precaution.
There is loads of info on the WWW, some a lot more kosher than others.

They are obtainable from NavNGo. You can check the date of the maps by going to Menu~Settings~{Right arrow} ~About~Maps. That' s where it is on mine, it might be different on yours, but it's there.
PS. Don't forget to backup.M8 |

Does this make any sense to you M8TJT -
Current System time: "2008-12-31 22:41:42"
Build: 8.3.4.102680 Built @ Aug 13 2009 - 15:49:18
One other thing is that i've now downloaded the Naviextras Toolbox, but i can't get it to find my micro SD card, with the iGO8 software on it. I've tried 3 different card adapter but got nowhere - any ideas

The second is the iGO system version number. It's obviously not the latest as the build was in 2009. There is a 2011 version and probably one since then.
The details are not the map details. You should have a list of maps with their dates (maybe coded) smewhere. The exact 'place' depends on the skin. But it should be 'close' to where you found the 'About' info. Is there not a 'Maps' button at the bottom of the Info screen.

Backup the card onto your computer before changing anything on it if you havn't already done so!!! |

I've already back up my SD card so i've a copy of the orginal softwre.
My problem is that the SD card shows up on 'My Computer' with its drive letter, but when i start the Naviextras Toolbox it can't for the drive for the SD card, even though it shows up on the computer
