|
|
I have a new Garmin Nuvi 1410, and am trying to access some recently-created Custom POIs (10 in total), which download successfully using the latest POI Loader.
When I go to Where To? / Extras / Custom POIs the screen contains no names. When I try to spell out one of them, it says that it can't be found.
I previously used an i3, and POIs showed up fine there.
I thought it might be a problem with the corresponding BMP file, which was in the old format, 954 bytes, so I replaced it with an arbitrary 1552-byte file from one of the PGPSW downloads, but still nothing.
The Custom POIs CSV file was saved from Excel 2010 using CSV format (not CSV, MS-DOS).
I'm obviously doing something stupid, so can someone suggest a solution?
Thanks!
PS As a side issue, what is the purpose of the name supplied for "Choose a name for the newly-created Custom POI file", and where is it located? Can the name contain special characters and a blank, as in "John's POIs" ? Is this name what I would expect to find at the level below Custom POIs? |

Saving from Excel in CSV format often produces strange results. I don't know what's strange about the format, but that's it. Try loading it into notepad and save it as a .txt file then rename it to a CSV file and see how you go from there. Provided that the values are separated by commas, all should be OK. |

Thank you!
I've tried what you suggest, but it doesn't seem to make any difference to the outcome. I corrected a minor error where I had put -187654 instead of -1.87654 on the way, but still nothing appears under Custom POIs on the 1410, either when the CSV is saved from Excel or saved via Notepad and renamed. |

I have now sorted it!
I didn't realise that I had to press "Custom POIs" at the top of the screen to be able to see them - d'oh.
And I also find the Custom POIs file name "on my PC" under the
Garmin drive letter\POI\John.gpi. |
