Dear All

As someone who is planning to make first gps purchase very soon a few questions ?

I primarily plan to use gps for walking and cycling activities. car usage seems an extra cost I struccgle to justify.

I am looking at buying Geko 201 with cable link to Pc and purchase of Memory map navigator map for south of uk.
In uk im looking at around £250 on this package.

If I was to pay more I could get a MIO 168 PDA with GPS , Tom Tom 3, 128mb SD, and same memory map for about £470.

This would mean i pay extra £220 but I get a PDA out of it and usage in car.

How practicable are PDAs in the great outdoors. ?? obviously they are not waterproof like Geko , so need a case but I guess this is not possible with GPS antenna on MIO in out position.

Sorry for ramblings, think I will stick to Geko 201 for introduction to GPS.
I am off to USA next week and have seen prices of $108 on websites in USA compared to £106 here.
Is there a problem with buying in USA ?? Is the spec of the unit exactly the same....?

Thanks. ian. Question

There is no problem buying the Geko in the US. and using it in Europe - except for the customs. When you enter the UK again you may be asked to pay customs for that device if they find it.

Pocket PCs have one more problem - battery life. That's very inferior to the one offered by handhelds.

Waterproofing is not such an issue, you can use an otterbox or similiar for that
