Having just come from a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone using TomTom Navigator and PockgetGPS speed cameras, I've now got an android phone but I now require a SatNav for it, I just don't like Google Navigation to rely on at the time, especially without speed cameras. I've had a look at a friends Copilot 8 which seems ok, but using PocketGPS cameras doesn't allow for "Speed Zoned Complete" like TomTom does, anyone suggest an alternative?

I've yet to look at CamerAlert app, but I would have preferred it to use POI's within the SatNav like TomTom.

Could we have added to the list on the download page of Speed Camera Database on what choice of File Type is compatible with each SatNav System?

few of the apps have full support for POIs. Navigon is the best nav app on Android but lacks POI support, Sygic is the next best and has basic support.

But whatever app you choose, the best solution is to use CamerAlert with your nav app - easy to update, best alerts etc etc. It's only 59p at the end of the day!

Yes but you get what you pay for, but there are cheaper solutions such as Sygic that are also very good and equally better than Google Nav.

Google Nav is free and fine for occasional use but there is a world of difference between it and any decent navigation app.

Hope this is not hijacking the thread but it is related.

I have a Motorola Milestone/Droid phone 10 months old and like the (Android) MotoNav GPS on it, mostly because it works from their onboard maps without a phone data connection. These have .FBL file format which I understand is from IGo.

I'm just getting a XOOM tablet and ideally I would have the same app on it, taking advantage of the larger format and battery life etc. However I can't find any information that Motorola even still support MotoNav, and the Google maps navigator supplied seems to need a data connection, though I understand Google Maps 5 for Android will cache frequently used maps. Also in this thread the Google navigator doesn't seem to be highly regarded.

Is there any other Android app that has a good navigator and could use the .FBL maps? Alternatively, any way to make Google Maps read them as a fall-back?

map files are generally custom for each nav app. even if 2 companies use the same map provider the data will be formatted differently.
