I can only comment as a new user.
I have only used a PND since January and the first thing I did was ditch the Tom Tom "Speed Camera" service and subscribe to this agust database after doing some research; and I'm extremely pleased with the database and the community.
I did not plan on being a "Lifetime Member" after only a month (I was lucky enough to spot a new camera less than a month after I subscribed to the database). I had all the intentions to continue to pay the yearly subscription to this valuable service ad infinitum.
The old adage "You get what you pay for" is true... Yes, you can get "free" speed camera data "out there"... but is it updated and maintained? ... NO!
The PGSPW staff must spend a lot of time maintaining and updating the database and developing new software for devices, should they be expected do this for "free", again I say NO!
The greatest thing about this database is the "peer review" of it; the users and contributer's to it, make positive inputs and ensure that it's integrity is ensured... As its users are a "working" part of its operation and continued maintaince.
Edited to correct a stupid "spolling mistook". _________________ Aw ra best

I suppose there are free databases out there that they could use if they wanted to. Why don't they get one of those? Perhaps they aren't as complete or accurate?
I think the current business model is fair enough. If someone is the first to find and submit a correction then they get a free lifetime membership. Alternatively, they will find that the database is so darned good and up to date that they can't find fault with therefore it's got to be well worth the subscription charge!
I have to laugh at the blog rant about the culture of people demanding software for free being the source of all evil though. I guess the irony of having it posted on a website powered by this dreaded "free" software is completely lost on him. _________________ Gone fishing! |

Its a bargain, and the lifetime free bit for camera spotters is a better bonus than anyone else can do. Keep up the good work.
Every time I have spotted a new camera (always hopeful) another member has nabbed it first. But that is good! it means I can rely on pocket GPS.

I'm also quite happy to pay for this database as I trust it as being as accurate as possible.
When a new camera is spotted I know that someone here pays good money to go out of their way and verify it. With petrol prices being what they are I don't see why it should be free.
I was also fortunate one day when I saw a van pull up outside my office and watched them erect a new camera. I got straight onto the addition page.
As above, I'm also on the lookout for new cameras all the time. _________________ Satnav:

Hay Kremmen, that's cheating getting them to put a camera up just outside your office. |

As a camera verifier, I like the direction you are heading with this.... |
