Downloaded latest map updates and all went OK. But after switching off my computer, cannot get my device to boot up ! It switches on OK and shows the disc loading but then the TomTom picture appears on screen and after about 30 seconds, screen goes blank. Then if left alone, picture reappears for about a minute and then goes blank again. This process repeats again and again. Have tried using the Reset feature but to no avail. Can anyone help please ??

First give the reset button a prod which is in the base of the device then see if it will power up.

Next connect to PC reset it and switch it on, use Windows Explorer to view the files/ folders on the device, open the Western_Europe map folder, locate the file "MapSettings.cfg" and delete the file.
Unplug from computer and see if it will power up correctly - Mike

Hello again Mike.
Did as you suggested and powers up OK now. Thank you very much. However this means I have lost my Map Settings. Any tips or should I go through it all again.

You could try the following:

Put the old MapSettings.cfg file back in to the Western_Europe map folder and start up TomTom Home, go to Operate My Go and add a favourite or simply change the address of one of them. Shut Home down then disconnect the device and see if it will boot up, using the PC software via the emulator can cause the old mapsettings file to get saved in the new format.

If the above doesn't work I am afraid you will have to re-enter the POI settings - Mike

Mike, The TT920 is not supported in TT Home for the function "Operate my Go". So it looks like the manual route. I had this problem before (losing POI Settings) and several replies giving different options were received. See here :- http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=551284

Yes it is.... but Home needs to download an extra .dll file for each model.
Sometimes Home refuses to do this though, for some reason.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling Home itself? (you shouldn't lose any maps etc. it has downloaded so far, but it is always worth backing up first).

I don't think there's several different options there.... they all say much the same thing:

1. Keep a copy of the old MapSettings.cfg
2. If the settings are not copied across when you update the map it is because you have a pre-Navcore 8 model (eg the 920)
3. TRY copying the old MapSettings.cfg into the new map folder - it might work.
4. If it doesn't, TRY using Home to modify it by adding a Favourite, if you can get 'Operate my Go' to work.
5. If that doesn't work - give up and recreate your settings manually.

If it comes to step #5 it really doesn't take long to do and you've probably spend more time trying to make it work with steps 1-4 and asking advice on the forums than just sitting down with a cup of tea and re-doing it all!
