I see it apparently has a 500mhz cpu. Well my GO has a 400mhz cpu so its not exactly a huge step up. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Now I haven't tried the new software so cannot say if this is the case or not, but processor speed isn't everything
Smartly written "clean" software can run much faster then poorly written software on a fast processor. Of course if you have both then your onto a winner
Typical example my HTC Hero was slow on 1.6, even worse on android 2.1 and now runs smoothly on 2.2
Perhaps after all the tweaks over all these years, the old TomTom software has got bloated and this fresh re-write is nice and clean. For now at least... _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

That is true, my old One XL [200mhz] reroutes almost instantaneously compared to my 530 [400mhz] presumably because it has fewer functions/less data to integrate. But the write up for the 1000 promised a lot [of multiple fast calculations], and the 500mhz sounds like a minimum rather than something with a bit of spare capacity. _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

I was hoping for a nice neat Itinerary feature which would allow you to enter several postcodes - click optimise and it sorts the best route round. SADLY - they've taken the entire itinerary feature out of the 1000 models (GASP!)
Garmin 1690's do it, but their GUI is terrible...... |

Try and blag the OBD-II Bluetooth accessory as well as the 3790T from Garmin as that should really expand the feature set available to this device and make for a very interesting read.
The Garmin 3790T isn't a "connected" device via a built in modem like the Live products from TomTom a direct comparison isn't really viable but its easy to see a close similarity between the devices due to the iPhone style capacitive touch screen - Mike |

It might work on the 10 year old Labrador but it will definitately work on the Scenic, thats assuming the accessory and software is available when you get the unit.
I will make a trip over though once you get it as its the final chunk of the jigsaw puzzle for my Ovlov installation - Mike |

you should see the 750 Last night I was in Godalming did my route home 78miles it must have taken at least 2 minutes .Half way up the hill traffic kicked in with 45 minutes time added on so I recalculated it took over 2 miles to decided at 30mph to get me on track and by that time I had passed the junction and had to stop for it to make up it's mind ,got the 3 options chose the recommended ant then it took another minute or 2 to give the the routes ...TBH I would rather have a super quick route over poi's as you know have google search so poi's are almost a thing of the past ,but I would still miss your speed cameras ....that's the biggy _________________ TomTom 5001 |

Is anyone actually considering buying one? Would like to hear from people using it day to day, but it is a lot of money for something that has a number of question-marks? _________________ Mike R [aka Wyvern46]

Why bring Another model into the mix?
Just fix the existing ones to do what they are meant to do.
Forget all the extras and have a good core nav device.
I never use music, voice, pictures etc.
Just get me from a to b and do it good.
Keep on the traffic put on the pgps cameras and all will be good. |

I'm getting very mixed results with my 750!
One moment it's lightning fast then next it's like a sloth on valium.
I've scanned the memory card & internal memory whilst it was attached to the computer, checked for errors, whether it had any I don't know as I left it to its own devices (no pun intended) & it was all fine.
Now it takes an age to start up & acquire a satellite! Still there's going to be a test tomorrow. Going to Somerset for a couple of days, we'll see which is best TT 750 or my dads Garmin 3760.
Place your bets please. _________________ Be alert.. This country needs more lerts. |

Have you tried deleting the GPSQuickfixes?
Remove the entire contents of the "ephem" folder on the Go and the "ephemeris" folder on the PC at C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\ephemeris |
