Best replacement for ageing TomTom / Dell Axim

Hi,
I have a GPS car setup comprising TomTom Navigator (originally V5, recently tweaked to run V7), a Dell Axim X50 PDA, and a Brodit ProClip. Bluetooth GPS receiver Qstarz BT-Q1300 which is fairly new, very sensitive etc.

TomTom V7 is running OK, but very slowly on this fairly old PDA (plus it's not legit, although my V5 was legit). Not too happy about the way TomTom abandoned their PDA customers...

I have an iPod Touch 32G, with Bluetooth / OS 3.0, and was wondering about running some kind of new nav software on that. A couple of things are stopping this:

- The iPod Touch does NOT have true GPS built in
- The iPod Touch has Bluetooth, but it seems it only supports headset profile - so cannot pair with 3rd party GPS such as the QStarz

There's the pure TomTom route, at around £100 for the clip and £70 for the app. But it seems expensive for what is basically still a solution that's tethered to the car, and £170 gets an OK-ish standalone PND these days ...

So what's the real advantage in using an iPod, instead of standalone ?

Anyone know of other nav solutions that run on iPod, that could pair with my QStarz?
