Hello all

Just upgraded to a Go750 Live after using a PDA for years and currently all is not well. I tried using latest map guarantee and it kept failing so following the advice in the forum I bought a memory card thinking lack of memory was the cause of the map failures.
After following the Go 750 map thread, I moved my map folder using explorer to a 4gb class 6 memory card. I then used latest map guarantee to download and install the latest map via TT home. The download failed again right at the end so again there was still a problem. However when I connected to home again the new map was waiting and appeared to install normally so I thought all was well. I checked the map install by browsing the map and all seemed ok. So far so good until I tried to navigate this morning and it won't work. Clicking either adress or postcode just locks the 750 and then it reboots. I can navigate to a favourite and I can navigate to home and everything works normally.
I guess that either something is missing or corrupt or I should have moved something with the map folder but not sure what?
Anyone got any ideas? Your help would really be appreciated.

PS I do have a backup both out of the box and also with the new map, but would really like to keep the new map because I won't get a second chance.

Thanks

Alan, first off try resetting the device by pressing and holding the on/ off switch until you hear the drum roll, does the device navigate after doing this?
You won't lose any settings or data, and having a couple of backups was a very wise move - Mike

Hello Mike

I did try this first but it made no difference; no navigation.

Are you located off the road map on the device or is the destination you want off the map as either of these can cause the device to fail to produce a route, try the following:

AtoB (Advance Planning) set a departure point of Address/ PostCode and enter FY43NN number 95, set a desination of PR41AX (no house number, does the device plan a route (Blackpool to Warton) - Mike

The minute I press postcode or address to plan the unit locks up waits 5 seconds and then reboots.

I was attempting to plan from central Warrington to addresses in Bolton.

I note that you live in Blackpool, I used to live there in the mid 80's, small world eh?

I think that this is software related, something is fundamentally wrong since I messed with it. It worked perfectly prior to this.

Did it work properly AFTER the installation of the new map and BEFORE the backup (hopefully with Explorer, not Home)?

If so, just use Explorer to restore that backup.

Hello David

I didn't try it before backup with explorer. After backup I was able to view and look around the map and navigate to favourites. I tried a demo route and that worked fine so I thought all was well, until I tried to navigate today and the unit locks up when I press postcode or street address.
Interestingly, once i'd got there it navigated back to my home faultlessly.
I have a clean backup out of the box but want to keep the new map if possible.
Thanks

Problem resolved, but that was a strange fault and not something I have seen before - was in the South West Manchester area earlier today so I called in to have a look at Alan's device.

Nothing appeared wrong with it, even reloading the application still caused the lock up, in the end I connected it to Home and used the "Operate My Go" function to select the Navigate To/ Address/ Postcode which surprisingly offered the keyboard to enter details, top right was a flag for Hungary - swapped this to UK and it worked, disconected from Home let the device fire up and it all works!

Just how the country had been set to Hungary is a mystery because Alan hadn't done that, and why the device was locking up instead of offering the keyboard and flag to change it on the device isn't known. I hate to admit this but I sucessfully used Home to fix a fault, now thats a first for me! - Mike

When I got my latest device, the first thing I found was that it was set to an Eastern European country. I don't think this is the same fault though - just mentioned that in passing.

As to the last comment !!! Shocked After all you have said. Rolling Eyes

This is wierd! I also had "the Hungary effect" and was completely baffled for a few minutes but after I tapped the UK flag (can't remember how I did this) everything became normal again. I did not have to connect the unit to the computer. I guess there must be some sort of software loop bug.
jack.
