Hi,

I haven’t used my GPS antenna for a while (which worked happily with my navigation progs.), though I have used the laptop regularly.

Problem.
- - - I start up laptop, on completion of boot-up, plug in USB GPS antenna mouse, the led on the mouse comes on, then after a couple of seconds starts flashing to show it has a signal. All good.
- - - After about four minutes the antenna stops flashing, what ever programme I have tried says ‘No signal’
- - - Pull out USB plug for about 5 or more seconds and re-plug, the mouse starts flashing again. Until another four minutes have passed, then repeat 'No signal' etc.

I have tried another hard drive (with complete operating system on it), which gives the same results. This drive hasn’t been used since soon after the mouse purchase due to upgrading to a larger hard drive.

I thought the power saving functions may be effecting it, so disabled them, still the same.

Hs anyone got any ideas to make good, or is it a duff mouse?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The laptop is a Dell Latitude 266
Running win 98

You need more patience.

If your GPS is new or if you have not used it for a long time, it will take a while to get its first fix.

How long it takes depends on the indicidual GPS and how good the signal you are getting.

Leave it for at least 10 minutes, and it is not unusual to take as long as half hour.

Hi,

The unit has a clear view of the sky (mountd on roof of van) and picks up 8 sats.

It clearly shows its position on any maps I use or lon/lats with any other software.

As I said it starts off okay, but after about 4 minutes it stops working.
