francesco - trey gpstweak from the downloads section here on this site. There's also several other threads along this topic in this forum. I am heading to italy in sept for a couple of weeks - that's why I bought the clip-on.

jlw - unplug your battery from the clip-on over night and that's your best chance of clearing the device if it's a state issue. I hope you didn't foobar your XT firmware!

foobar? explain

Franceso - I used gpstweak to get version, although jawa has another option. After running gpstweak, switch to SiRF mode and then type "ver" and you'll get the system version.

My wife and I are flying into Venice, renting a car and driving down then La Spezia (cinque terre); then off to the siena area, down to salerno and pompeii to see the ancient sites then off to rome for a few days before flying home. Were are you located?

The new flash program worked great the first time for me. Something must have changed as simkna stated, only the creation runexe.bat file changed. Checking the CAB file for the new updater - the only "new" binary is the bt updater app.

foobar = screwed up, corrupted, etc. Made to not work.

Can you connect to your fortuna in XT mode using gpstweak?

crux_view is easier to use and gives better info than gpstweak. It wasn't easy, but I capurted my version info as:

$PSRFTXT,Version: 2.4.13.01-XTrac2.0.2-C3EVAL1.0*05
$PSRFTXT,TOW: 0*25
$PSRFTXT,WK: 1265*65
$PSRFTXT,POS: 6378137 0 0*2A
$PSRFTXT,CLK: 96250*25
$PSRFTXT,CHNL: 12*73
$PSRFTXT,Baud rate: 38400 System clock: 24.553MHz*45

Xtrac 2, seems to work much better. It locked quicker and found more satillites quickly. I am now locked onto 5 sats in under a couple of minutes (I believe under 1 minute) where with Xtrac 1, I got 3 sats locked pretty quick, but to get 5 I had to move it closer to the window and such and it still took time.

Way to go fortuna![/quote]

At last, I have finally updated succesfully. I have checked the firmware using "crux_view" and it shows XTrac2.0.2. :D

Has anyone else noticed the change in the LEDs, in xtrac mode the sattelite status light now behaves the same as ST mode (red=no fix & green=fix), previously always orange.

I am shortly going for a test drive with it to see if the lag has been improved.

I'll post with my findings

First impressions of the upgrade:

Sensitivity

Wow, where I live, in a flat constructed of concrete with 1 flat above me, I have never been able to achieve more than 3 satellites in view and have never managed to get a 3d fix. Now I have a lock on 6 satellites and another 2 in view but not fixed.

When outdoors I have a lock on 10 satelites in xtrac, compared to 6 in St

Lag

After the first test run it would appear that the lag has gone.

Thumbs Up :D

This was exactly what was happening to me after running the original ClipOnSyncBT app. I would turn it off and on several times, and I could connect ok, but no data. ST worked fine. After I left my unit in ST for a few minutes, went back and tried XT, everything was again working ok. This happened several times.

I think that with Xtrac2 there's no reason to use ST anymore.

Indeed, also for me XTRACK V2.02 is much faster to get a satellite fix and the lag of the previous version has completely disappeared. Why than still use ST-mode? Maybe because it's more precise? In ST-mode you have WAAS/EGNOS support wich you don't have in XT-mode. I don't think it adds a lot more (noticeable) accuracy? What do you guys think about it?

Finally got it sorted. Not too sure what I did different to the previous 50 attempts, it doesn't matter now.

Time for testing.

I know what you mean, I'm sure I didn't do anything different to my previous 20 attempts.

After further testing this morning, I see no reason for using ST mode now. I am consistently getting 2-4 more satellites than ST in XTrac mode.
Also, previously with XTrac, when exiting a motorway, the GPS position would be shown continuing on Motorway for a good 5 seconds after leaving onto the slip road, now it seems to follow me precisely. Thumbs Up
