Hi

I have a tomtom 720T with the RDSTMC traffic dongle. It has been really reliable for me. I turn it on and it works with a fault. Traffic is a bit hit and miss.

I have been aware of the HD traffic feature since the introduction of the x30 or x40 range (i think). The HD traffic really interests me, it seems that it is now reliable and can be trusted? Is that correct? Does the HD traffic work in the continent?

Is it worh me upgrading from my trusty 720 to 750?

Pete

ps, i dont need much pursuading to get a new toy Wink

The HD Traffic is much better than anything else available but don't forget to factor in the subscription charge each month, there have been the odd server issues but on the whole its not a bad service and the data is accurate.
Bear in mind with the x50 range you will loose the FM Transmitter and the ability to play mp3 music from the device - Mike

that's not really a problem now is it ,I've the 720 and it now doesn't work

if you go to halfords they are selling them cheapish with1/2 Price Subscription to TomTom Live Services so you end up paying 250 I think ...I'm still toying with the idea of updating too

What makes you say that? Not working at all, or just working badly?

The jukebox works fine on my 720, so long as I'm using a recorded voice (Jane, Tim etc.) as I normally do. It stutters a bit if I'm using a TTS voice though.

Thanks Guys

I dont use those features anyway mike but thank you for the heads up

I am interested in the reliability of the unit (when i got my 720, it had to be replaced due to the speaker i think)

Whats the screen quality and audio like? The 720 voice crakles at high volume

The HD traffic is a big draw and if it works then i dont mind paying the monthly subscription.
with the fuel prices, can you spcify the grade of fuel, ie i can only put super unleaded in my car Crying or Very sad

@andy-c1 Is that an offer in store as i can't see it on their website.

Also when is the next map update due? I might aswel try to make use of the LMG Razz

Peter

Ive just upgraded from a 720 to a 750.
1. Firstly, I cannot detect any visible improvement in screen performance. Thats not to say the 750 is bad, it's as good as I remember my 720 being and is certainly good enough. Having said that, one thing I have noticed is that the auto brightness doesn't appear to be working. I've got daylight brightness set to 85% and night brightness to 15%. Despite this when driving at night the unit does persist in giving me the daylight 85%, which is distracting.
2. I did notice the sound quality seemed better as soon as I had the unit out of the box, it seems clearer to me.
3. So far I'm a fan of the HD traffic service.

Off to France this summer (will try and tag as many Frence speed cams as I can) so I'm glad I bought mine.

Just ordered a 750 from Amazon £232 inc, 13 months live subs.
Had a 720 then changed to a Navigon 2150 but missed the speed cams from here and custom pois.

I'm hoping it will work in France for holidays, not the traffic so much but the Google search. Has anyone used it in France?

I might as well add my comments regards HD. I'm less than impressed personally. On all the occasions where I might have hoped it would warn me of issues it has remained completely dumb.

Not once have I had it provide me with an accurate warning of a severe issue. It has warned me of slow traffic through road works etc and on most occasions was correct but then I could have guessed that myself.

The 3 miles of standing traffic on the A404 went unremarked by HD until we had been sat in them for 30 mins and a traffic jam at the M25/M3 junction last week was similarly missed.

I don't have to pay for my sub but if I did, I wouldn't!

I agree that it seems to be pretty c**p at the minute. On a run to London yesterday it had the end of the M1 with a 1 minute delay - the delay was 17 minutes.

It then told me my ETA 7 miles across London was 27 minutes, in fact it took 92 minutes - it showed delay signs but not the amount of time it added to the ETA. As each ETA came within 5 minutes of arrival it jumped roughly twenty minutes.

Not much help to me. I do not understand why, with all the Voda users their must be in London it cannot figure out how slowly/stopped they are and advise how long it would take to get through the traffic - I know they use lots of algorithms but crikey I expected better than this for my subs. Sad

I wonder if all the Vodaphone-carrying pedestrians confuse the system in major cities.

Unlikely as it is just as confused on motorways Smile

I donated my 520 to my daughter & started using a new 550 yesterday & I’m puzzled as to whether live services are even working – I logged onto my account ok but got very few speed camera warnings (thank goodness I’m running PGPSW as well) & no warnings of delays despite queues & standing traffic. I’m wondering if their IQ routes is already anticipating delays for the journey based on historical evidence & therefore the HD Traffic is not seeing rush hour standing traffic as a delay – nice bit of kit otherwise & some decent tweaks to the OS but time will tell – the speaker is much better too.

My only real problem at the moment is with the mount – I’ve used one of their sticky discs flat on the top of the dash & mounted it on that but it’s raised the unit quite a long way up in the air – it would been better if there were more ways of adjusting it to lower it back down again, I’ll probably have to throw more money at it buying & modifying a different mount – the best laid plans Rolling Eyes
