Does the 950 still give traffic information without a Live subscription? Does the TMC still work?
Interested in what you get in the way of information without the £7.99 subscription. I am using the free one month trial and found it extremely useful on a trip down to Yeovil! Delay information and roadeorks were spot on.

No, and No.

To get the RDS TMC traffic info you need to purchase a new Mount that has the antenna built-in - cost £50.

My experience of the 1 month free trial of Live was that it isn't any good. I always ignored its suggestions and never experienced any of the delays it was telling me. F.Y.I. I drive over 1,000 miles per week with my 950 switched on all of the time.

The Mini USB style RDS-TMC receiver will plug straight in to the as supplied mount negating the need for the accessory mount, BUT you will see a huge difference in service, the Traffic data supplied via RDS isn't very good (read pathetic) when compared to the HD Traffic system you get with the Live subscription.
In addition full country wide coverage when using RDS-TMC is far from complete leaving you devoid of any data, also consider the "Spaghetti" wire aerial strewn across the dash when using RDS.

RDS-TMC was good in its day (if you managed to get it working) but technology has moved on, if you have a Live device and don't use the services offered then I have to ask why you purchased such a device in the first place - Mike

Hi Mike,
I did my usual buy without fully understanding how the damn thing used the data. It doesn't matter because I have bought a month by month subscription which is best for me as I change my GPS systems like the wind!
I was impressed with the information today and all the additional info it gave me. Weather was right, fuel prices were right so pleased at the moment!
Thanks again both for the info.
Doug

Are you sure Mike? didn't I read somewhere ( Wink ) that the RDS-TMC would work with the x40 models but NOT the x50's? We queried it and it was confirmed?

Very true, I guess its down to TomTom to resolve this with a Navcore update (was one released earlier today?) - Mike
