Just bought a second GPS (first is a tomtom one V2) which is a 510 off ebay BUT it does not come with a screen mount. Looking (again on Ebay) there is a bewildering array of mounts. I gather the original one was not too good (not sure why) so the question is which one should I go for, short stubby one or a long one, banana shaped one and which features/make to look out for. Would like to use a separate mike for handsfree but not essential. My TT one has a very simple mount that sticks to the screen like a limpet. All help gratefully received.

I assume you have bought a TomTom Go-510 from e-bay, if so you will have to make do with the supplied mount, I have seen copies of the mount available on e-bay with very limitted connectivity so stick to the supplied mount to get the full capability.
If the mount droops in use (a common complaint) then consider changing to a third part mount at the expense of connectivity - Mike

Mike, as I said in my original post there is no screen mount supplied whatsoever (other than the desk top one) so I need to source one!

Sorry having re-read your original post I had missed the part anout the mount being missing!

E-bay is about your only way to source a new x10 mount there are These Available but they only power the device and contain non of the other connection points so its no ext mic, RDS-TMC, Line Out, iPOD, ext GPS.

Or try bidding on an OEM mount such as This One - Mike

If you are interested I have a new Genuine TomTom windscreenmount for the Go 510 together with an almost new "Drummer" visor and a couple of the small rubber "bungs" or third foot for the Go x10 series.

Looking for say £30 + delivery

John

John, Thanks for the offer but I get the feel from other posts that there are issues with the original mount? also can you explain what the "small rubber "bungs" or third foot" are for?

The TomTom has (from memory) two long rubber strips and a third little foot (the Bung I refer to).

These allow the tomtom to sit on a desk or table.

This third foot (bung) is very easily lost.

The issues with the original mount were down to a basic design fault with the x10 models rather then the mount itself, so I don't think any of these third-party ones will be significantly better.

Some people found the Go sat more firmly on the mount with the rubber bung removed, some people who'd lost the bung said the exact opposite!

Personally, i don't think there was ever a real problem with the x10 mount, just alot of owners who did not realise that there was a 2nd locking position on the locking ring and therefore never had the mount set correctly.

Paulday... there certainly was a fault. My 910 `s mount was one that sagged under weight and when they (TT) replaced it free of charge, it was and is, noticibly firmer.
