I had one of those times when my TomTom failed a Chkdsk and saved some fragments. Is there an easy way to find out what files were corrupted so I can try and copy them back from a previous backup? The TomTom's working ok so it's probably not something important.

The short answer is no, but if the unit is working OK the file fragment can't be very important.

Making an assumption that the Map Data is intact, it's easy to re-install the software from scratch. It's free anyway.

And you may as well delete the .CHK file

I asked that very question on TomTomForums.com. They recommend not removing them. Here is the link.

OK I think I'll just delete them. There is a difference between the File***.chk files in the Found.000 folder and the data***.chk files which I know must not be deleted.

My advice if you have had corrupted files is format and reload from backup.

That way you are sure you have a clean install with no corrupt files.

But that recommendation was about the dataxx.chk files, spook45.

As norm says, there is a VERY big difference between the dataxx.chk files (which are TomTom system files) and files with names like File***.chk which ARE recovered file fragments (and OK to delete)

I've never understood why TomTom chose .chk for important data files. Of all the extensions used by Windows (by far the majority of systems), chk is one of the worst to choose. Why couldn't they choose something 'normal' like .dat to avoid confusion such as this.
