Does anyone know why these are not included? Or is it me that can't find them?

Thank you.

If these features are important to you I can only suggest a couple of options:

1/ Complain to TomTom 0845 161 0009 if enough people shout about this issue they might enable these features via a software update.

2/ Return the device to the retailer stating its not fit for purpose and demand your money back then purchase a 940 which will do what you need - Mike

They are NOT listed as features on the Tomtom.com product page, so it is as planned by Tomtom. But, if you compare the size and weight of the 940 (with the FM and jukebox features) with the 950, they are exactly the same.

Like Mike suggests, it may be just that these features are disabled currently for some reason. The jukebox feature is just software, so *could* be added at any time. The FM Transmitter issue depends on if the hardware is inside the 950 or not.

Like I said, the size and weight are IDENTICAL to the 940, so you would assume if some hardware was removed, the weight should be less on a 950.

Just my observations from what I can deduce from the Tomtom.com site!

Steven

Same size and weight as the 740 and 540 but they're not the same specifications as each other or as the 940. Confused

Well I didn't compare every model, so I guess dennis' detective work proves my theory wrong!

I questioned TomTom on these missing features and they said that they didn't put them on the x50 series because no one uses them.

Please reply if you use either of them.

Thank you.

One of the primary reasons I purchased my first TomTom PND which was a 910 was due to the mp3 player capability and Bluetooth or FM Tx outputs to get music and instructions through the car deck.

From the 910 I purchased a 720 as it also offered similar capabilities in a slimmer package and its still used quite often.

Then came the 930, again I could throw a large SD card in it and enjoy music mixed with the navigation instructions all controlled by the device.

940 was just the same, music, Bluetooth and FM Tx, although I did think the decision to drop the mp3 player from the lessor x40 models and removing the FM Tx was a poor idea.

x50 range turns up and no music, no FM and IMHO they may as well remove the A2DP Bluetooth audio output as its a waste of time and not something I would bother using, for example what is the point in a HiFi Bluetooth audio connection for navigation instructions?? I am convinced the x50 hardware contains the necessary hardware for FM Tx and is capable of playing mp3 files but TomTom have removed this capability from the device range by software changes for reasons only really known to themselves.
If music replay is important to you look at getting an x30 or 940 if you feel you want to stick with the TomTom brand, avoid the x50 units as I doubt TomTom will have an about turn on the decision to remove this functionality, whether we ever see another TomTom PND capable of what the models I listed above are/ were capable of only time will tell, I am certainly not a big fan of the x50 range at all as I see it a backward step, a 940 running Navcore 9 intended for the 750 Fiat BlueMe device is about as good as you can get in terms of features and capability - Mike

A reported firmware upgrade 9.022 for the 950 seems to be causing the stuttering problems ..... again.

Do you get that feeling of Deja vu from around this time last year with the same problem on the x20/ x30 with the introduction of Navcore 8,300 - Perhaps its time to look for a works around early this time like we came up with last year running Navcores that were intended for different units - Mike

As requested... yes I certainly use the mp3 player - a lot!
I normally use the Bluetooth HiFi connection to get the music to my head unit, but if I have to use my wife's car I either use the FM transmitter or the line out.

I appreciate this is a rather old thread but its worth an update:

Whats a 940 got that the 950 hasn't in terms of hardware?

Kiss byebye to any idea of ever getting FM Tx on the 950 as this module is the FM Transmitter PCB from the 940, guess what, in the 950 the clips are there on the inside of the case but no PCB, there is no way a software update can ever switch on hardware thats not fitted! - Mike

Have to admit I've been waiting for you to do that, Mike! Laughing
I don't have an x50 to compare it with, so there wasn't much point opening up the 940 again.

Doesn't everybody always have parts left over? That's where my spare parts box comes from. Some of my spare leftover bits are too big to have ever been inside something. Confused
