I just discovered a ROM update for the IPAQ 4100 series on HPs website. I downloaded it and installed it. Same thing wit the Bluetooth. Connection drops off in a couple seconds. Doh!

Oh well.

Fieldgeek I am having the same problems with my iPAQ 4150. Surprisingly though my iPAQ 2210 works just fine with the Trine. Like you I applied the most recent HP ROM update for the 4150 with no change in the dropped signal/connection to the GPS receiver after 1 sec.

Yay! Someone else with the problem too! I am not saying that it is a good thing... but I am just happy I am not the only one. Just out of curiosity, if you connect to your 2210 first, can you then also connect to your 4150 without a problem?

Misery loves company...I understand. I found like you, if I connect with my PC 1st then I can connect with the 4150 and the connection is stable. I haven't tried connecting with the 2210 followed by the 4150. However, I suspect that the 4150 will connect stably if I do so. Fortunately, the trine and the 4150 software can be updated...hopefully a fix or workaround is found soon.

from what i can tell, the trine is the exact same GPS unit as the original emtac (i.e. the chipset, etc) the only things different/new are the battery, datalogger, and multilink, none of which affects the gps part of the unit (i.e. the sensitivity, time to lock, avg number of satellites, etc).

that means that, except for the new non-gps features, the trine is essentially the same BTGPS that was released back in 2002. Now, as far as i can tell, the only really new thing these days is xtrac version 2, which the trine doesn't have.

Question:
does it make sense to get the trine if you're basically buying a unit that's over 2 years old (i.e. same as the original emtac) or should i wait to get one with xtrac v2?

i'd be using it with a palm T3, and i like the fact that emtac has software for the palm on their website to control the unit (i.e. access WAAS, trickle mode, etc) whereas most other units only have software for pocketPC - so i'd like to get the trine (assuming the same palm software works for it)
unless people think that it's out of date and one with xtrac is definitely the way to go (hopefully also with WAAS and palm software)

What makes you feel that the GPS portion of the unit is the same. I would hope that they would improve upon the key features in 2 years.

I mailed Emtac about the iPAQ 4150 + Trine issue.
I'm still waiting for reply but I'll share it with you guys.
I also found a dutch online shop witch mentioned that these devices didn't work together.

Let's hope there's an update available soon.

if you look at the specs for each unit (Trine vs original) on the emtac website, they're identical. (i.e. chipset, firmware, sensitivity, times to acquire, etc)

Damn. After seeing that the price for the original Socket BT GPS has risen in the last couple of weeks by ~$30 I figured I would go ahead and get the Trine. But now that it has been pointed out that it is old technology, it is time to figure out what BT GPS I want to buy now.

I am having problems with my Dell Laptop D400 and the Bluetooth device i am trying to access. I see that Dell had posted a new A05 driver update, but i am unable to locate it anywhere on their website.
Does anyone have a copy of that Driver available that i can try?
