I've just been looking at Navigon's web site and I think it answers people questions about screen dimming:

Why does the screen turn off during the navigation?

Answer:

"Our software automatically turns off the battery saving function that turns off the screen. Should yet a new application start, like for instance an upcoming meeting, the function is turned on again. Therefore, please always confirm the pop-up to assure that the display isn't turned off.In isolated cases we have heard, that the screen turns dark allthough there wasn't a message or an other application. The cause for this are charging accessories that aren't certified for use with the iPhone 3G or the iPhone 3G S. We therefore would like to advise you to only use accessories that have been certified for use with the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G S."

I know that my Dension car kit is not OS3.x compatable and sometimes my screen stays on, sometimes it dims and turns off completely, but still gives me directions through my stereo. Dension are supposed to be working on a firmware update to rectify this. murders iphone battery which doesn't need any extra help!

So is Navigon better than copilot now? other than 7 digit postcode search.

Mike

I wonder if there is anybody here that can help with the GPS accuracy issue I have with my 3GS and Co-Pilot software.

When I get to junctions the software and/or iphone tells me I am either past the junction or on the other side of a T junction.

Looks a good program but obviously this issue will cause problems when driving around as much as I do.

Anyhelp would be gratefully received

Scott

I've had lots of problems with GPS accuracy. For example when driving along the M3 it will often pick up side roads, and then I get annoucement after announcement telling me to turn left... turn right... turn around, despite the fact I'm on the M3. TomTom doesn't have this, despite being rubbish at other things.

It got so bad I've defected to Navigon, which so far doesn't seem to suffer the problem either, so clearly it's a problem with the algorithm that CoPilot uses for GPS location vs. road.

Apparently the USAians got a HUGE update to Co-Pilot last night.

I don't think I saw anything here though.

Any updates would be great
It took 100 miles to get it to pick up any signal not a great start

I really think its the Iphone thats the issue but worked well when it got going (when I knew where I was going anyway)

I had to unplug the fm transmitter then it started working think I will have to get a good car kit any suggests anyone?

I mostly love my iO PLAY. Either fit it yourself though or get a known good professional (I had mine fitted by idiots).

I use that in combination with the Brodit holder, one of which can take the iPhone with a silicone case. Very useful!

Same for me, iO-Play with active Brodit holder, for more details on the Bluetooth car kit see Here I fitted the iO-Play myself so I guess mine was fitted by an idiot as well Laughing - Mike

Unless you scratched the car fascia as much as the idiots that fitted mine *and* broke the wire to the controller, then you can't call yourself an idiot Wink

Perhaps I chose the wrong words in the above post, I meant it to read as follows:

Even an idiot could install this to a car as its so easy to do, assuming you know how to remove the stereo from the car then the rest is very easy indeed - Mike

received an Itrip today, ordered cheapishly via Ebay. I'm not a regular car user, perhaps twice a month using copilot

As others have said you have to watch out for it going into power save mode, so you always need to have some music playing on the Iphone.

Noticed a typical nasty that even though Spotify outputs via the headphone socket and dock, the iTrip doesn;'t wake up for it, only if played through the Ipod app.

Got a trip coming up next week, so will give it a thorough go then
