Help please. I have tried to downlod Digitools Postcode, it is a large file and it would appear that my ISP is changing during the download. Is there any way around this

Your ISP is changing? Do you mean dropping the connection?

I use a program called Flashget http://www.amazesoft.com/reginfo.htm It can open more than one connection to the download site which makes the download faster. Also I think that it will continue from the last downloaded block if the connection is lost.

It is worth looking around for similar programs.

Darren:

When I start the download it starts ok after about 40 mins it stops and I get a warning that the ISP has reset. I have downloaded files as big as this from Microsoft ok in the past. The instruction from digitools indicates that a collection of postcodes files downloadable from yourselves do not have a clue how to find these I am trying to download direct from the digitool web page via my ISP NTL. Next time the error message appears I will copy it direct.

Darren:

The message I get is as follows

Internet Explorer cannot download ukpostcode_all_wm2003.zip from home page ntlworld .com. The connection with the server was reset.

I guess this is a problem at my end, is there any other way of getting ukpostcodes.

It looks like an issue with your connection or ISP (I guess this is dial-up?). You could use a download manager such as Oldie has suggested, this should support 'Resume' so if you get cut off the download will continue from where it left off when you re-connect.

Really? Then 40mins is way too long! What spped service is this? Even a 128k Cable Connection should be able to grab that 11Mb Download in 10mins or less.

Try downloading from this link instead.

Got the file, no problems. Email me with your address and I'll pop it in the post for you. Just to make sure its the right one, it has one file in it called ukpostcode.dat. is this correct?

my email is andyblissettxxx@hotmail.com (remove the xxx, i put this in to stop bots picming up my email address)

Andy

To all:

Thanks very much for your input. I did two thing as usual at the same time, so not sure which resolved. I disabled my firewall which has caused problems in the, but I also removed my ISP and reloaded it and this appeared to resolve as the download was very fast. I should switch my brain on sooner. Thanks again for help hope I did not waste your time.
