My wife has a Tomtom Go 710 and can set her status bar to show the current street name at the bottom of the status bar. I can't seem to do this on my 730(T) is this right or is there something that I haven't set properly?

Also my wifes 710 is much louder on every voice than my 730(T) and the screen is brighter. Again is it my settings or just the way things are between the two devices?

Many thanks

The street name at the bottom of the screen has been removed in later versions of the tomtom software. It has been replaced by the next street name looking like a road sign at the top right of the screen.

Screen brightness is set under Change preferences/Brightness preferences.

Volume is set by tapping the lower left corner of the navigation screen.

There are differences in brightness and volume between models and volume varies with software version.

The current street name is displayed just above the horizontal status bar on my 720 using App 8.351.

Edited to add:
Change preferences / Page 4 - Street name preferences / Check "Show current street name on map".

My 730 shows current street name by the following:-

Menu,- Change Preferences,- page4, -Street Name Preferences, Show Street Names &/or Show Current Street name.

It may appear at the top rather than at the bottom of the Driving View though.

EDIT - Lightning and Wi-Fi don't mix. How do I remove a double post?
EDIT EDIT - Anita has this covered with her own edit so both my post can be removed.

I'm guessing that the volume difference is that you have "upgraded" to application version 8.351 whilst hers is still back at 7.903. Version 8.351 "corrected" a complaint about distortion at 100% volume on some devices, by the simple means of reducing the volume on all devices (TomTom didn't think of advising any sufferers to turn the volume down a bit!!!!). For me, that makes 8.351 unusable and I have reverted to 8.302.

Brightness seems to be a variable thing - in the past I've run a GO720 side by side with GO920 showing different brightness levels. Confused

When the newer slimmer devices (e.g. X20 on) were first introduced the product reviews said that because the built in speaker had to be made smaller to fit in sound volume and quality were not as good as the earlier models.

Confirmed... That will make more difference than any software changes.

EXCEPT for me (if I'm the only one). Certainly my GO920 is not such "good" sound as my GO700. But I perceive no great difference in volume (and honestly, with speakers this size quality is not at the top of your expectations, surely?).

Until I got App 8.350, then 8.351 for the 920, whereupon the volume on 920 was reduced so much that I couldn't hear the navigation instructions or camera warnings. So I've reverted to app 8.302 and am still waiting for the promised (to me by TT Support) fix to get my volume back up to audible when driving.

I agree with Dennis. My 520 is inaudible on 8.351 etc. Ive gone back to 8.010 and refuse to update my map as I won't be able to stay with this version. Being Hard of Hearing I need the volume.

8.010 is fine in all respects on volume and everything. Long live 8.010

After 8.010 they've screwed up every release.

Dennis, rather than wait for TT support to fix it you'd be better of making up a pair of TT headphones with a TT over each ear.

Now that would be a useful accessory.

With the v815 mapping you get IQ Routes-II which gives you the different route depending upon time of day/ day of week, if you roll the Navcore back to 8,010 this capability will revert back to IQ Routes-I where the device will only offer routes based upon weekend/ weekday and it ignores the time of day.

For some instructions and a link to download Navcore 8,010 see Here

I would consider installing one of the 8,3 releases of Navcore to maintain the IQ Routes-II, here are a couple to consider using installation is via the same method detailed in the link above:

8,302

8,320.9901

Note with 8,320 installed Home won't recognise your device, quite a few of us were using this version around Christmas time last year to try and get around the stammering voices issue which you will probably get if you install 8,302. The 8,320 release was intended for use with the TomTom Work hardware (Truck based accessory) but the Navcore was found to work very well on the x20 and x30 ranges without the extra hardware.

Another option open to you is setting the device up to dual boot where you can have the latest Navcore on the device and an earlier version loaded to the SD card, put the SD card in to use the early Navcore (from the links above) or pop the card out to use the latest version - great way to do comparisons between different versions.

As with all work arounds make sure you fully backup the device using Windows Explorer NOT the Home Application BEFORE you start messing around swapping out files/ Navcores etc - Mike
