Hi,

I hope that this will be of use to others who are having similar problems.

I have been trying, for days, to connect my new GO 940 LIVE to HOME but every time I switched it on I got an error message from Windows to say that an unrecognised USB device was connected and that is as far as I could go. I never even got as far as HOME not recognising the new device.

I have been working with TomTom Support to try and fix the problem but I was getting nowhere very fast. However, in a stroke of genius or madness I fitted a new (empty) Micro SD card in the device and tried again. Low and behold Windows accepted the device and let me get as far as HOME seeing it, although linking it to my account is a whole other story. I can't imagine when that's going to work.

So if you have a new GO 940 LIVE and can not get it recognised by Windows buy a Micro SD card for it and it might work?? (but don't ask me for a refund of the cost of the Micro SD card if it doesn't work)

It’s a bit of a swiz though if you ask me, because I would have thought that it should be able to connect to HOME without buying anything else. I thought that the Micro SD card slot was for optional additional storage.

Reset the device by holding down the on/ off switch untill the device restarts with a drum roll from the speaker, make sur ethe dock is connected to a USB socket on the rear of the computer not a screen/ hub etc if that fails take it back for a replacement - Mike

Just for info..... when you added the microSD card, did Windows recognise the 940 as TWO new drives?
It should see the SD card and the internal memory separately, each with it's own drive letter..

Hi,

Mike
Before I bought the Micro SD card I tried all of the various options such as reset and changing the USB sockets none of which made the slightest difference, but thanks for the response.

Andy
Yes windows recognised the 2 new drives although the internal drive does not have the usual TomTom icon when viewed in 'My Computer'. As a matter of interest I have never heard the traditional drum beat when I have turned on the device or when I try to connect it to HOME. Once again thanks for the response.

If I ever get it working properly and talking to HOME I will update this post.

Have exactly the same issue with my 730 since installing Vista SP2, this morning. Grrrr.

Just tried a variation on Lost1's solution and connected the 730 with an SD card containing the newest firmware and no problem now. Vista seems to think there is a problem with the 730's "disk" though and keeps offering to do a scandisk on it.

Have reconnected the 730 without the SD card in it and it's now recognised (although Vista SP2 is still rabbiting on about doing a scandisk).

Thanks for the pointer, Lost1. Thumbs Up

Yes - on occasions my Vista will offer to scan my disk (oooooer .... !!!). When it completes it, it then informs me that there was nothing wrong with it!!!

Well it certainly seems to have worked for me but I still think it's a bit of a swiz that I couldn't get it to connect to my PC without buying an additional bit of kit. After all without connecting it to my PC I can't get the Latest Map Guarantee service to update my maps. Oh if only I could get that to work too but that's another story.

I have at least managed to get my GO 940 LIVE to be recognised and accepted by HOME now but only after providing TomTom Support with a proof of purchase and them reseting my activation code. All hail to TomTom Support.

If I can muster up the strength I'll do another post about the problems I am having with the LMG. Crying or Very sad
