Existing Nuvi 765T is completely dead - won't connect to webupdater so took back for a refund and ordered a new one from their on-line site.

Received a call to say the order couldn't be fulfilled as Garmin had requested all stock to be withdrawn from sale so that a bug fix could be applied to the satnavs. Rang a store to check this out and was told that these models were temporarily unavailable.

This must be costing Garmin big time in terms of lost sales, replacing units and having to recall stock.

Well Garmin should be more careful, if they done more testing this would of not happened, it’s like when I got my 865 the first 2 units where faulty, but at least they sort out the problems fast so not all bad.

I bought a 775T from Amazon yesterday afternoon and it is being delivered tomorrow. Will this fix be the same one available on their website and through Webupdater?
I intended to apply this myself on receipt. And does this update to V3.6 work okay?

When you get it DO NOT TURN IT ON.

Make sure WebUpdater is installed on the PC. Plug in the USB lead between the PC and the unit and the unit will power up, but will go straight to Mass Storage Mode.

Run WebUpdater and it'll offer you the 3.60 firmware. Install it, however when it is done and you need to restart the unit DO NOT disconnect the USB Lead as the Firmware upgrade doesn't take place until it restarts. If the battery is low and the battery runs out part way through the process you can brick the unit. Instead use the Safely Remove Hardware wizard in XP / Vista to "disconnect" the unit and it'll reboot but still draw power through the USB Lead. Once it reports the Upgrade is complete you can remove the USB lead if you wish. If you installed more than one update at the same time (i.e. Bluetooth Updates, GPS Chipset Update etc) then you will get this message once for each update.

Thanks Paul, hope it goes according to your plan. Don't want to brick another unit.

No Problem. If you, or anyone, bricks their unit you can easily reset the unit as per the instructions here.

All done, went like a dream! Thanks Paul for the detailed instructions. Like the 775T again.
