I'm after a sat nav, so I'll try and give you info for recommendations - yes I know that you will all recommend your own but, I need to start somewhere...there are just too many out there for me to decide

Here goes

I want a bargain Smile up to and around £150

Must have
For the car
Economical speed camera update
Wide screen
Postcode and Address search
Up to date mapping
Touch Screen
Dynamic routing

Nice to have
Lane alerts (where it tells you what lane to be in in advance)
Bluetooth
Traffic Alerts

Don't need
Picture viewing
MP3
Europe maps
USA maps

Am I asking for too much ?

Not at all!

The TomTom XL or if you canstill get it the original model (called the ONE XL) will do all that.

Must have
Dynamic routing

Not sure what you mean by that.... All TomToms will change the route automatically if you drive a different way.
If you mean it knows the different LIKELY road congestion patterns and alters it's route depending on the day and time of day, then the XL "IQ Routes edition" or any of the better-specified Go x20/x30/x40 Live models will have this built into the maps.

Nice to have
Lane alerts (where it tells you what lane to be in in advance)
Bluetooth
Traffic Alerts

Lane alerts are available on the 'Go' models and the XL IQ Routes Edition
Bluetooth (for hands-free and audio playback) is only available on the 'Go' models

Traffic alerts can be done with an add-on receiver/aerial on any model and by a built in SIM card and subscription on the Gox40 LIVE models.

In all the above, where I've written "Go x20" etc. the "x" stands for 5= model with UK/regional maps, 7+Europe maps, or 9=Europe and America maps.

There will be similar models for most of these features in the Garmin ranges, but I don't know much about those.
Personally, I would steer clear of any other brands.

You will struggle finding one of those as they seem to be out of stock at the moment and have been for some time, the web page to check for refurbished devices is This One - Mike

Cheers all
Too right - I missed the last 520 @ £110 here
http://www.tier1online.com/Sat%20Nav%20Store
but ended up with a bargain 720 from the Argos Fleabay clearance store. then got a bargain £9.97 from PCWorld TomTom RDS-TMC for One V3 / One XL / Traffic Receiver - just waiting for delivery now and as we are off to Tunisia on Sunday the 720 is going to my daughter's place
Any tips for me when I get back

It seems to be
backup everything
upgrade frimware
upgrade maps
backup everything

Use Windows Explorer for the backup, but you have got the order of "things to do" correct - Once its up to date consider whether you want to add speed camera warnings and spoken alerts that inform you of the camera type and applicable speed limit. If you don't know how to do this I am sure we can assist - Mike

PS - TomTom only give latest map upgrade free on TomTom supplied refurb units - maps are 2 years old, so it's going back as they want £38 for update to current. - At least they still have some new 520 @ £138 ish! so I've ordered one of them
