Can anyone tell me whether selling a used Map Card breaches the EULA. I have looked at the small print but cannot see anything that covers this apart from the condition that it can only be installed and used on only one piece of hardware at any one time.
The reason I ask is because I have a Central England card but want to upgrade to the entire GB (1:50K)
Satmap say that I cannot have any refund against my current map so I wondered if I was permitted to sell it.

PS offers considered! |

Yes, you are perfectly entitled to sell a genuine Satmap map card second-hand - in fact, the company made it a big selling point in their original launch campaign (together with lending cards to friends).
As long as you haven't tampered with or attempted to copy or reverse-engineer the card in any way, there's no problem.
I must say I'm surprised that Satmap won't consider a "trade-in" scheme: it would make sense from their point of view to try to stifle the second-hand market in mapcards in order to boost sales of new, full-price cards (which they profit from, rather than you). Ah well, I'm not a businessman, so perhaps I just don't get these things... |

Or more likely OS won't allow such a scheme. There licensing is particularly onerous. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Often seen map cards on ebay. They often go for close to, or even above RRP.
There is also a forum on this site for selling / wanted items.
Good luck |

Several months ago, Satmap exchanged my Cheshire 1:25K for a 100Km x 70Km custom, and my Central England 1:50K for Southern UK. They gave me full credit for the returned cards, which were hardly used and in their original boxes.
Result: one happy customer who now had the maps they needed rather than the ones they thought they needed when they bought their Satmap. One happy company who had a net gain of about £140 at what must be a pretty good margin (judging by the discounts and offers they can offer from time to time).
So, surprising that they will no longer entain this. But then, as so many posts in this forum show, commercial awareness is not one of Satmap's strong points. |
