I have recently purchased the above SatNav and understood that it was cabable of guiding me to a particular UK post code. Unfortunately this seems not to be the case as in many instances it only accepts the first part of the code and there is no sign of the last part so one is left in linbo. An example -I went to visit Bala in North Wales the first part LL23 is Ok but the last part is not accepted and it took me a lot of time to find the street -which was only shoun in Welsh while I had the English equivalent. Is it possible to download a full and complete copy of the UK postcodes which will work with the TT 730T?

I couldn't do this the first time I went for it myself.

Try again, using the following four steps

Tap
Navigate to
Address
Postcode

The postode is entered without a space, eg AB12 3CD is entered AB123CD

download link (edited by DennisN to fit the page)

Downloading that file and placing it on the TomTom should help.

He shouldn't need to do that - the 730 is quite capable of navigating to 7 digit postcodes out of the box. The only problems should be if a new postcode is not yet included in the TT fileset.

PLUS - NOTE that postcode set is an older version, version 701 and the current latest postcode version is 801.

Not that old - probably version 7 and latest is version 8. There's sure as eggs iz eggs not 100 versions between them!

You wanna learn how to do that link short yourself?

Many thanks to all who replied - the full poistcodes are now working. It particularly solves the problem of the English/Welsh translation. Thanks again

I downloaded the file referred to above and transferd it to my TT 730T - the full postcode (7 characters) was then available when I used the postcode finder in the 'Navigate to' section of the software.

Be aware the the downloaded file required unpacking first and then produced a 'zip' file which was slightly disconcerting ! However on transferring this unpacked 'zip' file to the TT it worked perfectly. Be advised that the zip file has no name other than 'zip'

Thanks again.

As Dennis said earlier, the postcode file referred to in that link is old, and out-of-date. A newer one (v801) can be found at http://www.oldboy.me.uk/TomTomUpdates/.

Seeing v801 mentioned above I thought I'd see what I was on. It turned out to be v603 "Postal code file for UK TeleAtlas maps."

My TT730T is on App 8.302 and Map W&CE 825.2157.

I installed v801 via above link and removed v603. However, every time I connect via TT HOME it wants to update to v603. What am I missing here. Why doesn't HOME make available v801? Is 801 a later version of 603 or are they not related at all? How can I stop HOME from telling me to obtain v603? Which should I stick with? I'm missing something obvious here I feel. Thanks for any pointers.

Ian

As said above, the 730 SHOULD have been able to resolve 7-digit postcodes without adding any extra files or folders (the "zip" you refer to is actually a folder, containing either two files for the UK map or four files for the Europe map).

Now, as far as I remember the maps supplied with a Go 730 would have had a newer postcodes file version from v603 anyway, so something funny is going on. Also you say you now have v825 maps, but don't mention having bought and downloaded them at all...
Does this device have a "chequered history"?

But anyway... "Home" is not the greatest piece of software in the world, it's anyones' guess why it sometimes insists on offering you old files (For ages, I was offered an 2 year old map for a device I no longer even own)

The easiest thing to stop it constantly nagging might be to let Home download it to your PC and leave it there. If it gets installed on the Go, just replace it again with the new version by pasting the new files over the top of them using Win Explorer.
