Further to the Bradford discussion, many bus lanes pose as big a hazard to drivers as speed cameras in my opinion. If you ever tried driving through South London on the A23 heading north on a wet, dark evening the lane road markings are barely visible, the signage is appalling and confusing and the effects on drivers who do not know the routes well are clear to see. Drivers often appear to spend more time worrying about drifting into a £120 fine than looking where they are going.

The lane time differ from section to section, the wording is crass: when is "Monday to Sunday"? Do they mean "daily"?—and the other inconsistency you see is "10.00 am" but "4.0, etc".

If you have to spend more time concentrating on road signs and markings than looking where you are going then the net result is more danger for road users.

I doubt if any sat nav system could keep up with these things: the chimes and bongs would be intolerable.

Bring on the bus pass!

Mike

Seems crazy to me that the bus lane in question in Bradford appears to be just the width of the road. So, on a Sunday with little traffic and hardly any buses it would seem logical to me to allow cars to cross this junction (ie. turn right) instead of having to detour to the left to go quite a way off a direct route. In an age of conservation, (fuel etc) maybe local authorities should be looking more closely at access to these short cuts especially at times on a Sunday when a bus may well not be using it!
