That certainly wouldn't work here in the States. In five days we can see more than a 10 penny difference. Shocked

Come to the land of price-fixing oil prices, Ontario.

Every station in my area charges exactly the same price per litre, down to the tenth of a penny .... Crying or Very sad

The bright side? We never need to subscribe to the fuel prices information ...

Well the x40's use HOME as well although they can update live also of course.

Petrol prices don't change daily so I don't see the issue? In fact the price data supplied to TomTom isn't updated daily all the time (it can be 3 days old) so HOME is perfectly suitable as a delivery mechanism?

I thought the benefit was when you're out and about you got to see the best prices locally on that day, when prices were moving quickly, as they did recently. http://www.petrolprices.com can be used for a similar function when online in the UK.

In a perfect world it would be up to date, but they cover their backs by saying it could be up to 5 days old.

Even so, I tend to find the cheapest petrol is usually from the same garages, so the ACTUAL price is less important then WHERE that price is from.

It downloads prices for the maps you have, in my case UK and Europe.

Using the LIVE service, I don't think it downloads ALL the prices for the whole map region in one go. I think it just does the ones local to where you are now.
You can see it happen by downloading your local ones first, and then (without having a satellite fix) creating and running a demo route in a different country. While the demo is running, ask for the fuel prices again and it downloads a fresh set of figures.

I wonder if it is the same when connected to Home - if you change your "Current Location" does it download a local set of figures?

In TT Home it does say

Quote:
NOTE: our database is refreshed daily, but on average it takes three days to receive the data from all stations.

but on the unit it says up to 5 days old....

Perhaps I'm doing this wrong.....

Tried "Preparing a Route" between 2 points in Italy. Then checked fuel prices but i can get "Cheapest Nearby" and "Cheapest in Area" which are close to my home but "Cheapest on Route" is greyed out.....

Was the demo still running, and did you make sure you *didn't*have a satellite fix?

While the demo is running, tap the screen and answer "No" to "do you want to stop the demo?" then go to the "Live Services" pages and then check the fuel prices.

I did my route in France and the prices for "near by" and "in area" were all in France. I can't remember if the "on route" had a figure, but when I just re-did it with a different random route, the "on route was blank and it said I needed to download again for that area.
Rather than do that, I chose one of the ones "in the area" and asked it to recalculate the route to go "via" that petrol station.
Once it had re-calculated, it now had that figure in the "on route" box as well.

Yes, i think.

ETA: Tried again this time with demo running. Keeps stating that "Can't Download Data for this fuel type" Same for Unleaded and Super Unleaded.

Maybe you need the "satellite signal reduction kit".....

Smile

To be honest, I thought that would only be important if you stopped the demo (the TT 'thinks' it is still where you stopped the demo if it hasn't got a fix but jumps back to your real location as soon as it gets one).

The fuel prices just seems to work when I do it, can't think what else you're doing different.

I should get some sleep now, but if you want to pursue this tomorrow, we could agree on some coordinates to travel from and to, and compare results?

Typical... just as I was about to buy an XL (Europe) I read about these!

I want one! Smile

Does anyone know when they will be available from European outlets, who presumably will have them in stock well before anyone here in the UK?

Thanks.

I'd hold off, these have not been launched in UK & Holland and I suspect there is more to this than simply a marketing exercise or a desire to clear existing stock.

Thanks Darren... I am sure you are right!

Perhaps I will still pick up an XL (Europe) for £130 from Amazon after all... and save myself a few pennies as well!

I am almost sure I saw these featured on TomTom's UK website last night... or was I mistaken? It was quite late!

It would be great if these were to be made available here before too long!
