Hi gduvl
As Victor Melldrew would say ‘I do not believe it’. It works, yes, it sodding well works. I followed your instructions and the map is now installed. I never thought for a second that it would do so, but it does. I agree that I haven’t been out on the road yet but it all seems ok. I will see tomorrow and let you know.
Anyway, what was the crpoi.dat file? What was it for?

It's part of the built-in POIs. I believe it is the "extra information" included with some of them.

For example, if you Browse map/ Find/POI/POI in city/select "London" and go to "College/University". Then find "Kings College, London" in the list.
On the summary page it usually gives the phone number if one is available, but there is an extra "Details" button. Tapping on that gives you a new page with (in this case) the address.
It is that "Details" information that is in crpoi.dat, I believe.

What happens if you try it?

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem, with the same error messages. I followed the hack, deleting crpoi.dat from the unzipped download, and the map loaded first time.

God I love this forum!! Laughing

Hi Folks
I have just driven through London and the Tomtom works just fine.

Now, Mojo has contacted Tomtom about the failed download and as you may have seen they have referred him to their 2nd line technical department. It will be interesting to see what solution they eventually arrive at. I will be surprised if they come up with a better solution or if they come up with a solution at all.

Three cheers for the GPS World Forum.

I am not sure if this is still of any use but my W&CE map crpoi.dat file that downloaded and installed without issue was 48,137,284 bytes and the zip file was 2,085,846,523 bytes.

One thing that could cause the issue but I have not seen this sort of thing for many years is that some ISPs used to cache large files that had frequent downloads and this used to cause many problems if a file became corrupted on their cache. I thought this practice had stopped but it may be possible that some ISPs still do this. So if the people who have problems all have the same ISP this could be a possible cause. My good download was via BT Broadband.

It is far more likely that one of TTs servers has a corrupt version on it.

Hi Mojo
Have you had any luck with Tom-tom’s 2nd line technical department today?
If the answer is no I suggest that you try the ‘jiggery pokery’ as described by gduvl. It works. I have done three hundred miles today and it all workes perfectly.

I have the same problem with my TTG740.

I have tried an update from three pc's (one mac and two vista machines). And from two Internet connections O2 and Telewest.

I raised a ticket with TomTom yesterday, but I am still awaiting a response

I called them and they said they need more details of the error message. I was thinking about using the crpoi.dat from my v8.15 maps in place of the faulty v8.25 one but they said it wouldn't work?

They did say if someone has downloaded the W&CE v8.25 maps ok I caould copy the crpoi.dat file from that one?

Funnily enough I am on 02 broadband as well...

I have just sent the following question to O2, I won't hold my breath though!:-

I have a TomTom satellite navigation system. This device gets map updates via the Internet. I have previously updated this over your broadband connection with no issues. However current updates are failing because I keep downloading a corrupt file.

I have been in touch with TomTom and checked user forums and this corruption seems to be common only to O2 broadband customers.

I am wondering whether you might have a corrupt copy of the file in your cache servers. If so is there any way I can by pass your cache servers to get the update from TomTom?

I've got it, but it's way to big to email. I just tried putting it on my tiny bit of free NTL/Virging webspace and it fell off the end.
Suggestions for an alternative site I could use that won't bombard me with adverts and other junk?

Hi Folks
So, it appears that it is just o2 users that download the corrupt file, how strange.

However, with the corrupt file deleted my 720 with the new map works just fine and the now missing file doesn’t bother me at all.

Mojo, Back-up your device and try the file from the previous map. With a Back-up you have nothing to loose.
