I wonder if someone can offer a few pointers here
Iam having distance issues with my ipaq 5550 and the TT BT reciever

I cant get them to talk unless there are exceptionally close say 12 inches apart I have checked this via the tom tom wizard running the connection set up and gradually moving closer and closer until they talk.

I use the reciever on my dashboard of my van and as a rule the ipaq is normally just a foot or so away any further and they stop communicating
even soft resets the normal trick wont work.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

When i first started using the set up it would work anywhere withing the vehicle, i was wondering if any settings could have been changed on the ipaq that could have this effect.

i dont think so it sound like a dodgy receiver though it could be the bt radio in the ipaq at a long shot try linking the ipaq with a phone or other bt device and see if you still have distance problem if you cant connect to phone from 3-5 feet away with no obstructions then its the ipaq if will connect to the phone then its the gps

david w know alot more than me about these things hopefully hell be along shortly and help if im wrong

As Alix says, ideally test with another Bluetooth device (such as a mobile phone) and your iPAQ to try to figure out whether it's the iPAQ or Bluetooth GPS at fault.

Such a short Bluetooth range is abnormal. If the problem isn't interference (which is unlikely in car (me) / van (you) / Scania artic (Alix)), then it's likely that one or other device is faulty.

Well I thought i had better drop a line here with the outcome of my problem,

I managed to get a phone to talk to my ipaq, now i was convinced it was the receiver

So I called Tom Tom run through a few basic tests and was told to fill in an RMA, and call DHL to get it sent back

DHL collected the receiver 2 hrs later this was tuesday on Friday DHL returned with a new bluetooth receiver, After all the reports I have read on Tom Tom I was expecting a week or two before being up and running again. 3 days from Waltham Abbey to Holland and back again, them guys were quick and no cost to myself what so ever.

Customer service like that they have my future business, well done guys im sure you look in on this forum so a big thumbs up Thumbs Up and iam now the proud owner of perfectly working receiver.

The difference i see is the blue tooth light is constantly on when connected
unlike the faulty one I guess i had a bad receiver, and one that just got worse.
