Ive just bought a 730 and updated it.
How does one know IQ Routes are working?
Can one disable it?
It looks to me like an invisable feature.
Thanx

Plan a route and the device will show the route summary screen, on here it should also state IQ routes and date and time of day the route was planned - Mike |

Just to throw my 2 halfpence worth in IQ routes do seem to give different routes at different times of the day, for me the followiing is what happened:
Rochester to Tower Bridge, Saturday morning 07:45
A2 - Woolwich Road - Greenwich - Surrey Quays - Jamaica Road, Clear all the way.
Same Route Sunday Evening 16:45
A2 - Blackwall tunnel - East India Dock Road - Rotherhithe tunnel - Jamaica Road, clear all the way again.
A workmate used the other route on the Sunday and was late for work.

You can switch off IQ routing in the Change Preferences menu / Planning Preferences (page 5 of 8 on my current software for the x20 models and page 6 of 8 on the x40 models). It is an extra button on the bottom right of the first screen rather than on the normal pages. |

Does IQ Routing update every time you sync the TomTom?
How is the information collected and distributed?
I am intrigued.

IQ data is stored within the map data so it doesn't get updated by connecting to Home, you would need to update the map to a newer release to obtain newer IQ related data.
Every time you connect to the Home software assuming you have selected to partake in information gathering the device will upload data to TomTom about the soeeds of roads you have been driving on. It is this data that is used to forumlate the IQ data - Mike |

Hi All,
One problem i can see with IQ routes is when a new road is made to bypass a village or a better link road.
These new roads have no data for them.
So even though these new roads are on the map IQ still uses the old road!
All well if you know the area but if not you still end up on the old road.

Not sure I follow this...
The new road will have it's basic speed/time attributes, just like all roads did before IQ routing, so if it is the best route, the TT will take it anyway.
In other words. If the old road takes 20 minutes and there is another route that might take 19 or 21, then IQ routing might make a difference in which one is chosen. but if the new one only takes 5 mins, then that will always get chosen in preference to either of the others.
Also, maybe if the road is in existence for some time before it appears on a public map, won't they still be gathering data for it? |

The problem might be that the bypass (probably being longer) is actually no quicker than going through the town.
In on case that I know (the Caxton bypass near Cambourne), the bypass takes quite a big loop, and even with new traffic calming in the village, there is not much difference in time to traverse, and TT calculates that the direct route is quicker.
My usual commute is to Cambourne from the south, and IQ routes would take me to work via the bypass, and home through the village. _________________ Tomtom Go 1005
