i know that we are the rulers of Australia but why are there Australian POI’s in the British downloads here are the offenders I have found so far

Aldi at -33.7998, 151.2846 not UK
KFC at -33.78618, 151.2663 not UK
MCD -33.76622, 151.2655 not UK
Pizza Express -34.87596, 150.6026

This makes me ask the question “What are the powers to be going if they miss four POI’s that are on the other side of the world?” as a rule of thumb Brittan is 51 degrees north and is on the prime meridian so if u have one that say -33 and 151 this would say to me that this location is not in the UK

gpsfox, you've been a member of this forum for less than a month, during which time you've made ten posts, all of them complaining about the accuracy of the FREE POIs.

As has already been explained to you, a lot of these have been in the database for a very long time, since before the stringent checking which is now carried out by volunteers.

The whole point of the POIs on this site is that when errors are found they are corrected by the members, so benefitting everyone.

Can I suggest you submit corrections to any further errors you find, rather than continually moaning about them.

It's also very possible they are deliberately added as part of the "watermarking", to prove if the data has been copied wholesale onto another site.

In the same way, you will find deliberate errors in TeleAtlas maps (in amongst all the accidental ones! Laughing ) and even the Ordinance Survey. If one turns up on a competitors product, they know the data has been borrowed.

First off PGPSW is the bust site for POIs.

I did not know how to get the rogue POIs removed from the database in this case as I don’t want to delete ones from the Australian set

Also for your information I have been submitting corrections via the submit poi page but it seams that the powers to be are only taking certain POI corrections and leaving the others that I have corrected

I may not drive a car a truck or a bus but I do have a good geographical knowledge of my area and when I can I aim to use that knowledge for this community

It seams to me that some of the errors that I have found are due to incorrect logging of data

I have just been sitting here updating local based POIs to where i live this was all done via a first part post code search (e.g. E14 E3 E15) and have submitted correct location or closed ones due to the Olympics and 2 closed hospitals one hospital is actually demolished

When I get a sat nav unit I will go out and verify current locations and I am willing to verify and new one that come up in a five mile radius of 1 Canada Sq E14 (aka canary wharf tower

How about submitting it as a "Change Existing POI" but putting sufficient explanation in the comments field? It may or may not be Richard's preferred method of receiving such changes, but I'm sure he would be able to act on the information given if it was detailed enough.

I must admit though, I am a little perplexed by someone who doesn't drive and doesn't own a SatNav device complaining so vehemently about the quality of POIs designed for SatNavs.

We're no longer rulers of our own country, let alone Australia.

Anyway, what difference does it make if there are four sites shown in Australia?

If you had a Sat Nav. you would realise you would never, unless in Australia, using Australian maps, need to set a destination to any of the four you mention. If you did here you would get 'No route found'.

It takes 24 hours by plane to get to Australia, who in the right mind would want to drive there?

By the way, my son said Manly has a great beach and a great place to surf.

we can receive literally hundreds of poi submissions in a single day, even more if someone sends in a full poi set as opposed to individual submissions. because of this PGPSW is unable to respond to every submission (ditto for camera database) as to the reasons why a particular one may have been rejected.

common reasons, however, include:

forgetting to provide new coordinates for a change request
inadequate explanation of the change required
location doesn't appear to match on satellite view
submitted location is not on the entry road
lack of detailed comments in the submission

hope that helps

Is that meant to be for the benefit of users of pgpsw POI database?

I've heard of gadget freaks, but I never heard of a gadget freak who got gadgets just to take them down the pub and show people what gadgets he's got and never use the gadgets for the purpose for what they was gadgeted for what.

I'm beginning to wonder if your real name is Adrian, or Billy, or Walter.

Well, it's up to you of course, but you seem to have a strange sense of values. As a cycle courier, you have a limited range - Maybe 5 miles radius from Canary Wharf. That's within the A-Z London coverage and in case you don't know, an A-Z is far better for your sort of work than a satnav - you will never find "Bloggs Buildings", or "Terence Terrace" on the satnav, but you will on the A-Z. There are many examples of such differences. What you'll be doing is swapping a £10 A-Z for a 3 figure price satnav which is unlikely to have a long enough battery life to keep you going for your working day, never mind lacking the sort of detail you can utilise.

Special Request. Next time you post, could you please start introducing things like full stops, commas, capital letters and sentences - it really is difficult to get your meaning at first reading. You are surely trying to get us to understand you, so it'll be worth your time putting some effort into that side of posting.

If so I object strongly at being called both a racist and ignorant.

FACT: Australia is NOT ruled by us and we ARE ruled by the EU.

Not racist and not ignorant. So where did you get that idea?

By the way, I'm not your mate and have no wish to be.

lost_property - i took it as referring to the initial quote in your post (ie the opening comments to the thread)

however, i do think the reaction was slightly over the top to say the least!

let's try keep this on topic and all play nice (everyone!)

over the top!, obviously not to you, but if you are an aussie and you insult the country, that is offensive,

and lost property I do see why you would think that I was refering to you, for that I apologise and say that I never thought about your comments in the post, when I included the quote.

The term 'mate' was not an invite, but a general term used in everyday conversation, you should get out more

I do think you should read the post again though as you only duplicated what I said ;

which was in reply to the op's bigoted reference to colonialism and not to your posts. Rolling Eyes

hope that clears up any confusion for you..
